1st period - We checked the boardwork problems. Students then played the card game WAR in pairs of two to pick out the greatest or least number in each pair. They then were asked to complete 8 more boardwork problems to be checked tomorrow in class.
3rd - I went of the Personal Data Forms with each student and we clarified any questions they may have. We discussed how all forms are different, never to leave anything blank (always write n/a or none), and to always be truthful on any form you fill out. Homework: Finish the five questions from Monday and have them in class tomorrow if they have not already do so.

1st - We will quickly check the 8 problems from board, so I can check for each students basic understanding of the concept. Then students will continue with greater than, less than, and equal too by playing a game with cards and game board to review in pairs. Then students will be given a review puzzle to complete for extra practice. Homework: If they do not finish the puzzle in class it will be homework and need to be return on Friday.
3rd- Students will check five questions with teacher directions, then we will take our first set of notes on Job Applications, and then students will be asked to complete cross word puzzle to review vocabulary terms. Homework: Job Application Vocabulary Quiz will be Monday, please study your words!

1st - Students began comparing values using while still using the symbols <, >, and =. They completed 8 boardwork problems that we checked in class and then student were given a practice sheet to work on in class and complete for HOMEWORK if they were not able to finish in class. We will check this first thing tomorrow.
3rd - Students will finish Resume notes and begin working on a guided worksheet to creating their own resume for future job interviews. They will be typing these on Thursday in the computer lab. NO HOMEWORK

1st - Teacher will go over worksheet from yesterday and give them a homework credit grade. They will then participate in an index card activity for review and complete one last practice sheet on comparing number values.
3rd - Continue working with guided resume sheet and complete word search puzzle using common resume terms.

1st - Today is the last day dealing with comparing values and <, >, and =. We will play a Candy Corn Review Game in pairs. Students will then be able finish the practice sheet from yesterday in class.
3rd - Students will be in the computer lab typing their individual resumes, that will be included in their job document portfolio at the end of this course.
September 26, 2008 -
1st - The last friday of every month will be a game day where students will play a game involving numbers or logical reasoning as a class or in groups. They will be able to win candy or school supplies. This month the game is BINGO. NO HOMEWORK - Have a great weekend!
3rd - Students will begin learning about cover letters and will take notes on this topic. I will also share some previous students letters as examples for them to use. They will begin creating their own cover letters on Monday with guidance from teacher. NO HOMEWORK - Have a great weekend!

1st - We continued our powerpoint and used chalkboards to record answers and then show them to the teacher. This is a quick way for me to check individual understanding. A practice sheet with 10 problems was then assigned and turned in at the end of class. NO HOMEWORK

1st - The class went to the computer lab and used the Smartboard to play two free online rounding games. The students seemed to have a great time and having them play basic math review games at home off the internet is a great way to get them excited about math and sharpen those basic math skills. We will be taking at trip to the computer lab at least two times a month. 3rd - Today we began taking notes and talking about the importance of thank you letters. NO HOMEWORK

1st - We played a basketball review game in teams today to work on accuracy and speed of rounding to the nearest 10's place. Then students completed a review sheet and they will have a quiz on Monday!
3rd - Today we did our guided Thank you letter activity so students will have something to follow Tuesday when we are in the computer lab typing these. HOMEWORK: Notebook Check on Monday and Test on Wanted Ads, Cover Letters, Resumes, and Thank You Letters will be Thursday.

1st - Today we took a quiz on rounding to the nearest 10's place and will put examples in notebook for rounding to 100's place for this week. Students will answers questions based off a powerpoint today. NO HOMEWORK
3rd - Students will have their notebook check today which is worth 100 points of their 6 weeks grade this time. They will also begin using those notes and worksheets to help them complete a review sheet for the test on Thursday. This sheet will include everything they need to know for the test. HOMEWORK: Study for the quiz using the complete review sheet, we will check the sheet in class on Wednesday so if you do not finish in class it is homework.

1st - We played a dice game individually to review the concept of recording numbers and rounding to the nearest hundred's place. HOMEWORK - Student were given a back and front review sheet to complete and return on Thursday for a homework grade.
3rd - We went over review sheets and student were given a puzzle to again practice the concepts that we have been covering in class and get them ready for their big test tomorrow. HOMEWORK: The puzzle will be worth 12 points and should be completed for homework if they did not do so in class.

1st - Students will take a short quiz on rounding to the nearest hundreds place and then we will begin our week of rounding to the nearest 1000's place by doing review and boardwork problems.
3rd - Students will be given the Interview Vocabulary Terms 1 - 10 (this will start a new notebook check notes) and then we will go to the computer lab to finish up all job documents and type our reference lists. 3rd - Vocabulary quiz today on interview terms, they organized job documents in portfolio, and practiced the mock interview process with the students that will begin occuring tomorrow and will be on DVD.

1st - Students took a quiz on rounding to nearest dollar, many of them struggled with this. This assignment took the entire class period.
3rd - Students completed a calculating gross pay worksheet and we checked it in class, the students all did very well, they need remember dollar signs though.

1st - Students started a Halloween graphing activity today using one coordinate set of letter/number to create a simple picture. Most students did well with this but a few need to finish for homework and return tomorrow. This is just a simple introduction to graphing and we will work on the concept at many different times during the school year.
3rd - Students were reviewed on Gross Pay and asked to complete a worksheet with 50 problems where they have to multiply the hourly rate x the number of hours worked. They were given the entire class period to work on it and will need to be finished for homework if they did not do so in class. Be study for vocabulary quiz Friday.

1st period - Students will be asked to complete the other graphing puzzle today in class and if they finish early a halloween word search puzzle will be avaible for them to work on.
3rd - Student will be in the computer lab using the smartboard and clickers to complete a 10 question graded activity on gross pay. They will also have a vocabulary review puzzle to complete for Homework and return tomorrow before the quiz.

1st - Students will play a card game dealing with adding and recognizing numbers. They will play 31 which is like Blackjack 21 except they are trying for 31 before their partner since today is Halloween. If they finish their 10 rounds before the bell rings then they may finish their word search puzzle from yesterday. We will also enjoy a few treats. NO HOMEWORK except for bring in empty candy wrappers on Monday - HAVE A HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
3rd - Student will be given vocabulary quiz on calculating pay and their review puzzles will be collected. They will then be given a class period to complete a Math Monster Riddle Puzzle and enjoy some Halloween treats. NO HOMEWORK and HAVE A SAFE HALLOWEEN!

1st - Students completed a monstor math riddle puzzle and reviewed using a calculator to multiply numbers. This was collected at the end of class and will be given points for a classroom participation grade.
3rd - I only had one of six students present, so he just worked on other homework. We will resume with Calculating Pay tomorrow when classmates return.

1st period - Students Finished their exponent ball game in pairs. They will have a short quiz on Exponents tomorrow in class. Then we will begin Scientific Notation.
3rd period - Students were given notes and examples on how to calculate Net Pay, they were then given a worksheet with 25 questions that will be due at the start of class tomorrow. If they did not finish in class they will need to do so for homework.

1st period - Students were given a 10 questions exponents quiz from board. We checked them in class and students were given grades automatically. We did not get to begin anything new and will tomorrow in class. NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Student were given a 2nd Net Pay worksheet to be completed with an additional step - to calculate gross pay and then find net pay. This uses example number 2 in their notes. It is due tomorrow if they did not get if completed in class.
November 20th, 2008
1st period - Students were given notes and examples on boards, then we played an index card review game, and finally students were given a planet table worksheets to write answers in scientic notation. This worksheet is due tomorrow, many of the students finished in class.
3rd period - Students began time and a half. They were given notes and step by step examples to follow. They were also worked with in class on 1 - 4 on their worksheets. They only need to attempt to complete 1 - 12 for tonight and have them ready for class tomorrow. If they struggle with particular steps we will address that tomorrow in class. I simply want them to attempt thest on their own.
November 21st, 2008 - 2 hour delay -
1st period - We checked the planet scientific notation puzzle and then play a board game in pairs to review scientific notation. The students were given 5 boardwork problems that will be checked tomorrow in class.
3rd period - We did not have class today due to the delay.
November 24, 2008
1st period - We checked the five board work problems from yesterday on the board. Then students began working on creating a thanksgiving menu and shopping list using newspaper ads and then they had questions to answer at the end of the activity.
3rd period - As a class we checked 1 - 12 from the time and a half worksheet (students are still struggling and this is one of the hardest things we do all year). We worked many more examples on the board and students were asked to complete 13 - 24 that will be checked tomorrow in class. Student will need to finish for homework if they do not do so in class.
November 25, 2008
1st period - Students continued work on the Menu activity. At the conclusion of this project they will be given a grade out of 30 points based on how well they met each step of the project.
3rd period - We went over 13 - 24 and students did much better on these problems, they are starting to remember the steps and the process is getting easier and quicker. We went over additional examples and then students were given 25 - 37 for classwork/homework that will be due tomorrow and check in class.
November 26, 2008 - Sub Plans were left for today!
1st period - Review inequailities and comparing numbers worksheet. They turned this work in at the end of class.

1st period - Students began ordinal numbers today and we completed a stocking christmad puzzle. This puzzle is for homework if they were unable to complete it in class.
3rd period - We check 38 - 50 on the time and half worksheet. Students were then given notes and examples on how to calculate piecework when dealing with units. They completed a 15 question practice sheet that will graded in class tomorrow. They were given a common deductions puzzle that will be due on Friday December 5th to review this unit's vocabulary for upcoming test. They will need to complete this work and have it turned in by each deadline.
December 4th, 2008
1st period - Students will be given a few notes on ordinal numbers and we will play an index card game to make the concept come to life. If time allows we will work on memorizing First - Tenth and reciting them orally.
3rd period - We will check Piecework 1 worksheet and I will record a grade, then we will talk and review example 2 from their notes and students will be given a 1 - 25 worksheet to be completed about piecework. Don't forget Common Deductions vocabulary review puzzle is due tomorrow, along with this worksheet completed.
December 5th, 2008
1st period - Students continued work on ordinal numbers. They worked in pairs to order items. This unit will continue over the next few weeks. NO HOMEWORK!
3rd period - Today we check the piecework worksheet #2 and I also graded their common deductions puzzle. Students were asked to complete a review sheet for their test on Tuesday December 9th. We will check the review sheet on Monday and play a review game. They will also have a notebook check on Tuesday, this is easy points if the take all notes and vocab from board and keep up with their math notebooks that they can leave in my classroom. If they did not finish the review puzzle in class today they will need to do so for homework. Have a great weekend.

1st period - We wrapped gifts for the monogram angel tree children today in class
3rd period - Students were graded on review sheets and we went to the computer lab and played a Jeopardy game on the smart board on Net pay, Piecework, Time and a Half and Common Deductions to get them ready for their test tomorrow.
December 9th, 2008
1st period - Today was our last day at wrapping for monogram club angel tree children. We will resume ordinal numbers in class tomorrow.
3rd period - Studnet took their test on Net Pay, Time and Half, Piecework, and Common Deductions. This test was worth 62 points. They also had a notebook check today worth 80 points. NO HOMEWORK!
Decemeber 10th, 2008
1st period - Students complete an ordinal number worksheet by teacher direction from the board. We reviewed for their test on ordinal numbers that will Friday. They them completed a "Car Races" worksheet independently in class and a few needed to finish it for homework. It will be due tomorrow.
3rd period - Student took notes and examples on Sales Tax today. They completed 1 - 25 on a sales tax worksheet that we will check in class tomorrow.

1st period - Students will take ordinal number quiz and then we will go to the Computer Lab to play a couple of ordinal number games on the Smartboard. NO HOMEWORK!
3rd - We will continue with sales tax and we will check 26 - 50. Then they will complete a 1 - 15 worksheet where they have to find sales tax and final price. We will check that worksheet in class on Monday!

1st period - Students took a short quiz on ordinal numbers. Then they colored a Flower Power sheet in groups also dealing with oridinal numbers in a logic puzzle format. NO HOWEWORK!
3rd period - Students brought in receipts to examine sales tax, then they were given notes and examples on calculating discounts. They will have a worksheet to complete tomorrow in class and they need to bring in a discount add for class on Thursday to examine and calculate.
December 16th, 2008 - Sub Plans were left for today
1st period - Student will complete a secret riddles puzzle and a basic match up worksheets using basic operations of add, subtract, multiply and divide. NO HOMEWORK!
3rd period - Students will work on sheet calculating discount and final price using different percentages. This will be homework if they do not finish in class. Students also need to bring their discount ad in for Thursday!

3rd period - The students discount ad's are due today, we will examine those on the board as a class and students will be given 10 points for bring one in. Then we will check the discount sheet from Tuesday and complete a math christmas activity if time allows.

1st period- Will complete one more practice graph and then we will play Christmas Bingo as a class. We will be having a few treats on this day as well.

1st period - Continued working on completing our christmas graphs. We worked on a bar graph today and started with interpreting a graph. NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Students began commission today by taking a few notes and examples off the board. They were asked to complete 1 - 25 in class yesterday.
January 6th, 2009
1st period - Students worked in groups to complete the last Christmas graph on interepreting it's meaning. We then started symmetry today and I showed them some examples on board and tv screen in classroom.
3rd period - We checked 1 - 25 on the commission worksheets in class and talked about any particular ones that gave them problems. They were asked to completed 26 - 50 in class today. It will be checked first thing in class tomorrow.
January 7th, 2009
1st period - Students will take a few notes on symmetry from the board in their notebooks and then they well complete a name activity using paint to demonstrate how symmetry works.
3rd period - Students will check 26 - 50 on the commission worksheet. They will then begin wage plus commission with a few notes and examples. They will them be asked to complete problems 1 - 10 on the Wage plus Commission worksheet.

1st period - Students will be assigned their six week project for the 3rd six weeks grading period. They will be asked to make a symmetrical picture using a tanagram sheet I give them. They may use whatever materials they would like to complete an exact pattern on each side. Student completed a lab activity making symmetrical objects by cutting a friut roll up. Then students will complete a practice sheet in class today based on symmetry. A few of the students needed to finish part of this sheet for homework.
3rd period - Students will check 1 - 10 on wage plus commission worksheet and will be asked to complete 11 - 25 for classwork/homework. The sheet will be due Monday for a correctness grade!
January 12th, 2009
1st period - Students will be in the computer lab using the Smartboard to play review games on symmetry. NO HOMEWORK!
3rd period - Students will check/grade in class Wage plus Commission worksheet 11 - 25 and then will start woking on a review sheet on Sales Tax, Discount, Commission, and Wage plus Commission. The test and notebook check are scheduled for Thursday Jan. 15th.
January 13th, 2009
1st period - Students will be doing a food lab activity dealing with symmetrial objects and playing an index card game. If time is left students will be given time to work on six week project that is due on Friday.
3rd period - I will give students a little time in class to finish up the review sheet, then we will go over it and work out any problems they may be having difficulty with on the board.
January 14th, 2008 - CLUB DAY PICTURES
1st period - Students will follow along and participate in a Alphabet Symmetry worksheet/activity with teacher direction from board. The students will complete a practice sheet in class if time allows.
3rd period - Students will play basketball review game in teams to practice the concepts on the test tomorrow. Students need to look over review sheets and make sure their notebooks are in order for tomorrow.

3rd period - Today we took our big test on Sales Tax, Discount, Commission, Wage Plus Commission. (80 points)
They will also have a notebook check on this unit that will be worth 40 points.

1st period - Students started Fractions today. We are at this time working on looking at a shaded figure and deciding what the fraction should be labeled. We also are learning the proper names for fraction and their uses. We took a few notes today and worked some practice problems on the board.
3rd period - Today we started our Unit on Banking. We compied our Vocabulary Terms 1 - 20 into our notebooks. No Homework.

1st period - We continued with writing fractions. We used mini chalkboards to record each answer so I could check each students individual progres. Then students were asked to complete a practice sheet that we checked in class. NO HOMEWORK.
3rd period - Today we read the Article "How banks help you" and discussed the many services that banks can offer you. Students then completed a fill in the blank worksheet about the article that we checked in class. NO HOMEWORK.

1st period - We continued working on writing fractions from shaded pictures. Students completed two puzzles in class....many of them did not finish and need to do so for homework. They will have a quiz on Monday on just indentifying shaded fractions.
3rd period - "How to open a bank account" Today we talked about all the procedures, forms, and libabilty to opening and managing bank accounts (specifically checking).

1st period - I will collect puzzles from those who did not turn them in on Friday. Quiz on shading. Then we will be continuing with fractions but this week we will be given the fraction and they have to shade the figure. Computer Tutorial and Boardwork examples. NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Today we are going to start writing money amounts. We will pratice writing out words and filling out a check appropriately. NO HOMEWORK
