September 10, 2007
1st pd - Students were given notes on place value. They were assigned to groups of two to play dice place value game tomorrow.
NO HOMEWORK
3rd pd - Student were given notes on Wanted Ads. We also went to the computer lab to finish our job investigation research on the four jobs of their choice.
Homework - Teacher will check the computer lab information tomorrow in class.
4th pd - Journal "What is the one thing you dislike most about yourself?" Then students were asked to complete pages 5 and 6 in the Career Game book. We played a detective game in class to learn more about our peers.

September 11, 2007
1st pd - Students will break into their groups of two to play the place value game and then complete a practice sheet on ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands.
Homework: They will need to finish for homework in they do not in class, we will check in class on Wednesday.
3rd pd - Students will complete wanted ad practice sheet and we will check them in class. I will also be checking computer lab information.
Homework: Please bring one wanted ad to class tomorrow to share with peers.
4th pd - Journal "What did you learn about another classmate in class yesterday?" Then students will be asked to complete pages 7 - 11 in the Career Game book.

September 12, 2007 - CLUB DAY
1st pd. - Students will continue their learning of place value by using egg cartons with candy to reinforce the concept. Teacher will hand out practice sheet in class and it will need to be completed for homework if not finished in class.
3rd pd. - Review over wanted ads and take a short quiz to check understanding. Teacher will then give students job application vocabulary.
HOMEWORK: Please have 3 job references with contact information by Friday. They may use me for one, but no immediate family memebers.
4th pd - Journal "What is your favorite time of day?"
Students will be asked to complete pages 12 and 13 in Career Game book and be ready for the computer lab tomorrow.

1st pd. - Students will continue their learning of place value by using egg cartons with candy to reinforce the concept. Teacher will direct activity for 10 minutes and then students will work in pairs to test each other.

1st period - Index card activity on Rounding to Nearest Dollar and then students were given a practice sheet. NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Students were given vocabulary for interviews. Their will be a matching test on Friday on those terms.

October 3, 2007
1st period - Checked worksheet from yesterday, viewed powerpoint to review rounding to nearest dollar. Students were given a practice crossword puzzle to complete and is homework if they did not finish in class.
3rd period - Students were given interview notes and participated in class discussion about interviews experience. They also turned in their job portfolio's for me to review and grade.
4th period - Review for quiz #3 and begin the movie "The Birds" to compare and contrast it from the story we read.

October 4, 2007
1st period - Collected puzzle and then students were asked to complete a worksheet with 39 questions. They were able to work in groups if they so desired.
3rd period - Students were asked to review interview vocabuarly and notes. They have a vocabulary quiz on Monday on just the terms.
4th period - Journal "What effect does violence on T.V. have on people?" and then continued movie.

October 5, 2007
1st period - Check #1-39 questions on worksheet, then begin great than, less than, equal to with whole numbers. Students played the card game "WAR" choosing the greatest number.
3rd period - Students participated in discussion on past interview and job related experience. These students will have a Interview vocabulary quiz on Monday.
4th period - Journal "FREE WRITE" and then students took Reading Quiz #3 and finally the students finished the period by viewing some more of the movie.

October 8, 2007
1st period - Students will play the card game "WAR" again except this time they will be identifing the smallest number. They will then be given a practice sheet in which they have to use the related symbols for greater than, less than, or equal to. This sheet will be homework if they do not get it completed in class.
3rd period - Interview Vocabulary Quiz and the we will read "How to Survive a Job Interview" and answer the questions related to the article.
4th period - Journal " What is the best advice  you ever recieved?" The class will then continue the movie "The Birds".

October 9, 2007
1st period - We had a shorten period due to voting for homecoming in homeroom. Students were asked to complete a practice sheet and we checked in class. NO HOMEWORK was assigned.
3rd period - Students were given Interview Packet #1 to complete to help them review the appropriate process and technique to use to get the job they want. These packets are due on Thursday and we will go over them as a class. NO HOMEWORK
4th period - Journal "If there were no laws of rules in the USA, what do you think would happen?" We then continued watching our film "THE BIRDS" NO HOMEWORK

October 10, 2007
1st period - T.V. Activity with Bill working with greater than less than and equal to. Then student were given a practice sheet to complete in class. We checked the sheet in class and NO HOMEWORK was assigned
3rd period - Students order senior stuff.....then they worked on finishing the Interview Packet #1 and will have it ready to check tomorrow in class. NO HOMEWORK
4th period - Journal " Who is your best friend and what makes them worthy of your friendship?" Students then finished the film "THE BIRDS" and we breifly talked about some details in class. NO HOMEWORK

October 11, 2007
1st period - "CANDY CORN COUNT", Students will work in partners to complete game and corresponding tally sheet. They will then be given Packet #1 using <,>, =, that will need to be completed as HOMEWORK if they do not finish in class.
3rd period - Go over answer and discuss as a class the things they have learned about job interviews. I will then assign Job Interview packet #2, that is more a of a way to evaluate skills and give them talking points for future interviews. This packet will be due on Monday!
4th period - Journal "Please write a reflection on the ending of the movie "THE BIRDS" Students will then take notes on characters, setting, plot, etc and will fill out a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the story with the movie. NO HOMEWORK

October 12, 2007
1st period - Check Packet #1 and work on T.V. Activity #2 with continued practice with <,>,and = . NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Studnets will continue working on Packet #2 and will need to have it completely done by Monday in class, we will discuss it then.
4th period - Journal "FREE WRITE" Students will then go to the computer lab to complete research questions on the movie "THE BIRDS".

October 15, 2007
1st period - Students completed packet #2 on greater than, less than, and equal to for their last grade of the six weeks. NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Collected Interview Packet #2 for their last grade of the six weeks. They will have an interview tests tomorrow, we reviewed every questions in class today. This will be their first grade for the new six weeks. HOMEWORK - STUDY
4th period - Journal "What is the most rewarding activity you have do so far this school year?" Student then completed vocabulary 1 - 10 on note cards to use as a study strategy. HOMEWORK - FINISH VOCABULARY WORDS AND READ CHAPTER ONE IN HOLES. (Each student was given a book in class today that will be their responsibility to bring it back and forth to class).

October 16, 2007
1st period - We will begin exponents and do so by watching a short Brain Pop Video. Then students will participate in class discussion on how to solve exponents. NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Test on Interviews and Word Search Puzzle. We will begin math calculations on Gross Pay tomorrow. NO HOMEWORK
4th period - Journal " Write a description of Camp Green Lake, use as many details from the novel as possible". We completed discussion questions 1 and Summary in class. We then read Chapters 2 and 3 out loud and created a summary. HOMEWORK: Students need to complete the 10 short answer questions for Ch. 2 and 3 for tomorrow.

October 17, 2007
1st period - We played "Power of Face" card game to practice exponents using a deck of cards. I also showed the students a short power point to reveiw the process and vocabulary needed to understand exponents such as base, power, etc. NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Students were given their new 15 vocabulary terms in class with definitions. We also discussed the difference between different payments methods focusing on Gross and Net Pay. The students were assigned problems 1 - 25 which meant they need to calculate gross pay when given number of hours and wage per hour using a calculator. If they did not finish in class they need to do so for homework.
4th period - Journal " Do you think Stanley and his family really have a curse? Why or Why not? Do you believe in curses?" We then read Chapter 4 as a class and answered the comprehension questions and wrote a summary. HOMEWORK: Students were given a vocabulary puzzle using their ten words to help them become familiar with their meanings. I will collect this puzzle tomorrow in class.

October 18, 2007
1st period - We are continuing with exponents and we are going to play Exponent Basketball in teams. The students will then be asked to complete 1 - 20 for independent practice to check their understanding of exponents. This will be HOMEWORK if they do not finish in class.
3rd period - Student will show teacher homework, then complete 26 - 50 and we will check answers as a class. They will be given a crossword puzzle to review vocabulary words and that will be due tomorrow in class before the vocabulary quiz.
4th period - Journal " Now that we have met Stanley (main character), how are you like him and how are you different?" The teacher will read Chapter 5 to the students and we will write a summary and start our character list. Students will complete chapter questions in class and finish for homework if we run out of time. I will also be collecting their puzzle they completed last night.

October 19, 2007
1st period - We will check the worksheet by switching papers with a peer, then students will play Basketball Exponents on the computer screen for extra practice, then they will complete a worksheet with how to write in standard form and how to multiply exponents. There will be a quiz on Monday!
3rd period - Today I will collect vocabulary practice puzzle, then students will complete their vocabulary quiz (they will not have another one for a while) and then we will start talking about how to calculate your net pay based on your earnings statement. They will complete 1 - 25 on practice sheet. We will also look and examine a couple of actual earnings statements. The worksheet will be homework if they do not finish it in class.
4th period - Journal "FREE WRITE" We will then take Vocabulary Quiz 1 for Chapters 1 -5 in the novel. We will also review for our first reading test that will be Tuesday next week. Students will then start in class and then complete for homework a drawing to illustrate what Camp Green Lake looks like in their minds. This will be due on Monday!

October 22, 2007
I was out, sub plans were left for in class work only.
1st period - Worked on Circle Drills to review basic math computation with a calculator.
3rd period - Worked on a review packet based on job related vocabulary
4th period - There was no journal today.....They were asked to write four paragraphs on four classed and the progress they have made, giving details what what they have learned, what they could improve on, etc.

October 23, 2007
1st period - Students were given to exponent review puzzles to be completed in class and turned in at the end of class........NO HOMEWORK was assigned
3rd period - We checked the job packets given yesterday and students were given credit for completing the assignment. Then students were assigned to review  gross pay by the week, month, and year. We will check that worksheet in class today.
4th period - Journal "What would you do if you caught a friend cheating on a test?" Then students wrote a five senses poem through teacher directed instruction using objects from the novel such as lizards, snakes, dirt, scorpians, etc. HOMEWORK: Study for the first reading quiz tomorrow on Chapter 1 - 5, also a reminder that projects are due Thursday!!!!

October 24, 2007
1st period - Beging graphing ordered pairs on the x and y axis. Student will be taught through boardwork and using an online tutorial. There will be no written or homework assignment for today.
3rd period - Instruct the students how to calculate net pay. Students will be asked to complete number 1 - 25 on a practice sheet. We will also examine a few examples of pay stubs to better understand gross and net pay.
4th period  - Journal "Describe the best teacher you ever had." Then student will be asked to complete the test on Ch. 1 - 5. When everyone is finished we will complete an "making inferences" activity. Reminder that projects are due tomorrow!!!!

October 25, 2007
1st period - Classroom group activity by creating a graph on the classroom floor and making the students graph themselves when given an ordered pair. Students will then be asked to complete boardwork on graph paper if time allows.
3rd period - Check the calculating net pay worksheet and also give vocabulary terms on possible deductions. NO HOMEWORK
4th period - Journal "Free Write" Students will then be given vocabulary list 2 (10 words total) for Chapters 6 - 10 in our novel "HOLES". I will be collecting projects today.

October 26, 2007
1st period - Online T.V. Activity and then given them graph paper to graph 10 points to graph. NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Students worked on make - up assignments today and will begin calulating wage plus tips on Monday. NO HOMEWORK
4th period - Journal "IF you could steal one thing (and not get in trouble) from a famous person, who and what would be it. Please also explain why you made that choice. Then we will read chapter 7 and complete chapter 6 and 7 discussion questions and summaries. NO HOMEWORK

October 29, 2007
1st period - Review T.V. graphing activity. Continuing graphing, studnet will create a halloween graph working with just quadrant 1 ( all postive numbers. This will be HOMEWORK if they do not finish in class.
3rd period - Students will calculate wage plus tips and then be assigned a Common Deductions puzzle for HOMEWORK.
4th period - Journal "How are Stanley and his Great Great Grandfather simliar?" Teacher will finish reading chapter 7 aloud, we will then do questions and summary and create the character list. Students will be given a vocabulary puzzle for HOMEWORK. Vocabulary Quiz is Wednesday!

October 30, 2007
1st period - Studnets will complete graphing activity for halloween using all 4 quadrants to plot points. This is HOMEWORK if students do not finish in class.
3rd period - Student wil check Wage Plue Tips worksheet and then teacher will instruct on how to calculate time and half. Students will be assigned 1 - 25 for practice. I will also be collecting the review puzzles on common deductions for credit. The worksheet is homework if they do not finish in class. There will be a Quiz on Thursday on Net Pay, Time and a Half, Wage plus Tips and Common Deductions Vocabulary.
4th period - Journal " What is Caveman a good name for Stanley?" Students will then have read to them Chapter 8, 9, 10 and complete study questions and summaries.   HOMEWORK - Study for Vocabulary Quiz Tomorrow!

October 31, 2007
1st period - Created a Halloween Graph "Mad Monster" in class today....Most finished in class, but if not they need to finish for homework.
3rd period - Students were instructed and given worksheet on Time and a Half. They worked the entire period and will continue working on it tomorrow. NO HOMEWORK
4th period - Journal "Free Write" , Students will take Vocabulary Quiz #2 (Ch. 6-10) and then we are going to the computer lab to do research on famous inventors.

November 1, 2007
1st period - Studnets will begin Mean, Median, Mode and Range.
3rd period - Studnets will continue working on time and half worksheet in class. NO HOMEWORK
4th period - Journal - Test review on Chapters 6 - 10 in HOLES by playing jeopardy. Then students will be assigned their 2 project on "HOLES". HOMEWORK - Please study by reviewing your questions and chapter 6 - 10.

November 2, 2007
1st period - Mean is where we are starting, students were given a powerpoint with bulit in examples and then asked to complete a dice game individually. NO HOMEWORK!
3rd period - Students wll finish the time and half worksheet. I will collect the common deductions puzzle and we will check as a class the wage plus tips worksheet from eariler in the week. NO HOMEWORK
4th period - We went to computer lab and played a jeopardy review game on the Smart Board. The students reading quiz number 3 will be Monday. They were also given project requirements for creating a character matching game. Project will be due November 15, 2007

November 5, 2007
1st period - Students began Median by viewing a powerpoint and then students were asked to complete a few boardwork problems. NO HOMEWORK.
3rd period - We checked time and a half, wage plus tips, and common deductions puzzle as a class. The students will be asked to complete a Review Sheet in class tomorrow and Wednesday. They will have their first big test of the six weeks on Thursday.
4th period - Students will take their test on Chapter 6 - 10. They also complete their 3rd set of vocabulary words for HOLES. They need to finish for homework if they did not do so in class.

November 6, 2007
1st period- Students calculated median using number cards and completed 10 boardwork problems that we checked in class as a group. NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Students started working on Review Sheet on Gross pay, net pay, time and a half, wage plus commission, and common deductions. This is NOT for homework, we will continue working on it in class tomorrow.
4th period - Journal "What would you do if you were being bullied like Stanley in our novel?" Then we read aloud chapters 11 and 12 and completed comprehension questions and summaries. Students need to complete vocab crossword puzzle for homework.

November 7, 2007
1st period - Dice Game to find median as a group and the a independent seatwork sheet to be worked on in class and completed for homework.
3rd period - Review Sheet continued and turned in to teacher upon completion. HOMEWORK: Study for test tomorrow.
4th period - Journal - "Why do you think Stanley was bullied in school, but no since he has gotten to camp?"
Students were then asked to complete Vocabulary #3 and collected puzzle. No Homework.

November 8, 2007
Early Release for Parent Teacher Conferences
1st period - Powerpoint with Mode with built in Try These examples and then we completed an in class index card activity. NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Students worked on and completed the quiz on gross pay, net pay, time and a half, wage plus tips, and common deductions.
I will be avaible for conferences till 7:00pm tonight!

4th period - Read Chapters 13, 14, 15 in class and then started working on chapter questions and summaries for 11 - 15.

November 13, 2007
1st period - Introduced range using powerpoint and the had an online activity of 10 questions for students to complete in class with the use of a calculator. NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Teacher gave direct instruction on how to calculate commission. The student were given a practice sheet in class 1 - 25 on calculating commission, that will be collected on Thursday.
4th period - Journal- "Why do you think Stanley might try to remember exactly where he had dug the day he found the gold tube?" Then students were given time in class to work on matching game on 8 characters that are due on Thursday. We also finished summaries for chapeter 13, 14, 15.

November 14, 2007
I will be absent this day!
1st period - Will review graphing by completing a puzzle graph and color it in class only using quadrant 1.
3rd period - I am leaving a commission worksheet with 50 questions to complete while I am out. We will check both commission worksheets as a class when I return on Thursday.
4th period - I am leaving "Newsweek magazines" for students to pick 3 articles to read and summarize. They may choose to read whichever articles they wish.

November 15, 2007
1st period - Student will play dice game in pairs to calculate range. They student will be asked to complete a worksheet to demonstrate the concept of range. This will be homework if they do not finish in class.
3rd period - Check commission worksheets, hand out reveiw vocab puzzle. The vocabulary quiz will be tomorrow. PLEASE STUDY!
4th period - Journal - "Why was the Warden obviously interested in what had been found?" We will be in the computer lab using the SmartBoard to play a review jeopardy game for reading quiz on chapters 11 - 15 in "HOLES". Test will be tomorrow-Friday Nov.16,2007.

1st period - Review mean, median, mode, and range using large laminated number cards. Student will work in groups to create and answer questions as practice. NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Students have commission vocabulary quiz today, collect vocab puzzle, and then start learning how to calculate bonus commission using multiple step process.
4th period - Journal "If you were Stanley would you have given the gold tube you found to X-Ray?" Studnets will then complete reading quiz #3 on chapters 11 - 15. If students finish with enough time we will play the character matching games they created for project 2 requirement. There will a quiz on the characters at a later date!

November 19, 2007
1st period - Basic Math Practice with operations using turkey cards. No Homework
3rd period - Commisson Vocabulary Quiz and Bonus Commission worksheet 1 - 12 only.
4th period - New Vocabulary words  - list #4 for HOLES. Journal " Do you think Stanley's mother really knows that Camp Green Lake is a bad place?"

November 20, 2007
1st period - Start creation of your own Thanksgiving dinner. The students are asked to cut out 15 items, and then make a shopping list and find a total to see how much it would cost to host this dinner. There is no homework, we will finish tomorrow in class.
3rd period - No Students were present in class today!
4th period - We will read chapters 16 and 17 in HOLES and answer comprehension questions and create a summary as a class. I will be checking their vocabulary word cards for a grade. Journal "Have you ever been badly hurt....Explain?"

November 21, 2007 "Early Release"
1st period - Finished the Thanksgivin Menu assignment.
NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - No Students were present in class today.
4th period - We will read chapters 18, 19, and 20 and complete the chapter questions, we will complete the summaries when we return from break. Journal - "Have you every stolen anything or would you ever consider committing this crime?

1st period - Thanksgiving Graph of Menu Items in groups, NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Finish Bonus Commission worksheet from before break number 13 - 25. We will be starting Wage Plus Commission tomorrow in class.
4th period - Students will complete vocabulary review puzzle and their quiz will be tomorrow, they really need to review their words. Journal - "What was your favorite thing you did over Thanksgiving break?" In class we will use the T.V. Screen and strengthen our memory skills by making inferences based on pictures.

November 27, 2007
1st period - Design a Bill/Coin Project Assigned. It is due on December 5, 2007. We began talking about price comparision....No Homework
3rd period - Students will be given direct instruction from teacher on how to calculate Wage plus Commission. Then the students will be given a practice sheet to complete to demonstrate the competency.
4th period - Vocabulary Quiz on HOLES wordlist #4. then Journal - "What is your favorite dish that is served on your Thanksgiving table and why?" Then students will go to computer lab to use the smart board to play a review game for the HOLES test tomorrow on chapters 16 - 20. Students will need to study at home for quiz.

November 28, 2007
1st period - Online Activity - Do you have enough money? and then played a classroom index card game using greater than or less than when dealing with money amounts. No Homework.
3rd period - Student worked on make - up assignments due to many abscences. Today is the last day of the six weeks.
4th period - Journal - Free Write, Brain Pop Video on Types of Sentences, Vocabulary Quiz #4. No Homework

November 29, 2007
1st period - Brain Pop Video on Comparing Units and then played an online Lemonade Larry Activity. No Homework
3rd period - Started Piecework today, this helps kids understand the payment process for those wanted to work in a factory position after high school. No Homework
4th period - Journal "Describe what you think the poisionous nail polish looked like using our questions words to help you." Then student went to computer lab and played a jeopardy review game on the smart board. Homework - Study for test tomorrow on HOLES Chapter 16 - 20 test

November 30, 2007
1st period - Played Basketball on Teams dealing with math questions on price comparison from our local stores. A practice sheet was handed on and will be checked tomorrow and also just a reminder that projects are due this coming Wednesday.
3rd period - Finish the piecework sheet and started talking about the problems that companies such as Walmart faces when they have a number of returns.
No Homework
4th period- Journal "What are you weekend plans?" and we took the test on Chapters 16 - 20 in HOLES. Students were asked to uses notes and complete a 20 question practice sheet on types of sentences. NO HOMEWORK.

December 3, 2007
1st period - Went to computer lab and used smart board to play MAD MONEY.....Teaches budgeting and the differences between wants and needs.
3rd period - Wage plus commission while incorporating returns.
4th period - Check sentence worksheet and then assigned Vocabulary List 5 for HOLES on Chapters 21 - 25. I will do a word check tomorrow worth 10 points.

December 4, 2007
1st period - POP QUIZ on Price Comparison using Greater than, less than, and equal too and checked it in class. REMINDER PROJECTS ARE DUE TOMORROW!
3rd period - Continued Wage Plus Commission with Returns, need to finish for homework if you did not finish in class today.
4th period - Completed a word check and read chapters 21 and 22 in HOLES aloud in class today. The vocab quiz will be on Friday, please be studying.

3rd period - Wrapped Gifts for Monogram

1st period - Sales Tax on Purchases using 5% to calculate the final price. We will finish the practice sheet on Thursday. NO HOMEWORK
3rd period - Students will finish sales tax sheet numbers 25 - 50. We will check this in class.
4th period - Journal - "FREE WRITE", Computer Lab- Holes Review Game for Chapters 21 - 25. There test will be Thursday and they will also have a notebook check on the chapter questions and summaries.

December 12, 2007
1st period - Graphing Sheet - "What am I?"
3rd period - Calculating Sales Tax Quiz - 20 questions total. NO HOMEWORK
4th period - Journal - "Describe your feelings on public displays of affection, like Sam and Kate."
Then students will be asked to complete new vocab terms 1 - 10 by looking up definitions.

December 13, 2007
1st period - Reviewed Graphing and then finished sales tax practice sheet on purchases, if the students are still not finished then they will need to do so for homework and bring it back tomorrow.
3rd period - Reviewed and Checked Sales Tax Papers
4th period - Journal - "What kind of food would you use to invent a medicine product?" Test on Chapters 21 - 25, notebook check, and then complete summaries with students.
