September 5 - Take up and file influential people. Discuss answers to review. Look at major states and empires around A.D.1500. Supplement with map on wall to help locate these places

September 6 - Give Flanagan and Mott Pre -test consisting of 85 questions.
September 7 - Finish pre -test. Go over several of the most missed items.
September 10 - Begin looking at Chapter 5, section 1 on the Renaissance. (WHII. 2b )Take notes on when, where, and why the Renaissance took place. Discuss Machiavelli. Continue reading of section 1. Discuss characteristics of the Renaissance
September 11 - Discussion of leading city-states and their characteristics - Florence, Milan, and Venice. List information concerning Renaissance society. * Look closely at picture of printing press on p. 162. Discuss Gutenberg in detail using notes from old red book (p. 356 )
September 12 - Go over printing press and its effects from p. 162. From page 161, identify Castiglione, list segments of an urban society, mention arranged marriages and dowries.
September 13 - Start section 2 with definition of humanism and who Petrarch was. Note the accomplishments of Dante and Chaucer. Give these 6 names to discuss for homework: Masaccio, Donatello, Brunelleschi, daVinci, Raphael,and Michaelangelo
September 14 - Give SOL 9.3 of 15 questions to help supplement key events of the Renaissance. Discuss.
Show works of daVinci, Ghiberti, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello using my Life magazine of the restoration of the Sistine Chapel, and Rhonda Reed's book on Michelangelo, plus my old blue WH book. Also mention Masaccio and perspective as a key Renaissance characteristic in art, as well as Brunelleschi.
September 17 - Continue passing around Life magazine on Sistine Chapel restoration. Continue section 2 of chapter 5 with key figures of the Northern Renaissance, including Jan van Eyck and Albrecht Durer.
September 18 - Begin looking at section 3 on the Reformation WHII 3 a-c Discuss why Martin Luther entered the priesthood, and what he criticized the Church for. Mention where the Reformation began, when it began, and what it was.
September 17 - Continue yesterday's information concerning Martin Luther.
September 18 - Lecture on Martin Luther includes why he became a monk.
September 19 - Finish section 3 on the Reformation by discussing guided reading activity worksheet 5-3. This will count as a 10 point homework assignment
September 20 - Quick quiz of 5 questions on the Renaissance available ( optional ). Go over Peace of Augsburg. Show United Streaming Newscast from the Past. Introduce section 4 by highlighting major material including the Catholic Reformation. Assign handout of 17 questions. Homework assignment - Do questions 1-9.
September 21 - Check 1-9 for a 10 point homework quiz. Show United Streaming segment on Martin Luther( April 18, 1521 )

October 2 - Using pages 80-85 research and discuss 5 major religions Find websites to use in lab tomorrow. Concentrate on date of origin, founder, sacred text, basic beliefs, number of followers, and where the religion is dominant. *Chart is available on teacher disk for WH II
October 3 - Lab Day in library.Chart the major religions- Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, and Hinduism
October 4 - Handout chart to study in class and compare to the one they have been working on in preparation for tomorrow's quiz Show United Streaming segment on major religions. Give supplemental handout on major religions. Go over selected quiz questions to review.
October 5 - Give 24 question quiz on major religions. This will count as a 48 point quiz.( this is the old 9.6 of 12 questions plus the '04 version of 12 questions for a total of a 24 question quiz ) ** This is WHII .2
October 8 - Go over map questions from yesterday's quiz. Begin Chapter 6 on The Age of Exploration ( WHII 4 a-f ). Read the first section in class highlighting key material.
October 9 - Go to library and work on ALS lessons: Americas 2 plus The World Expands to help supplement Chapter 6. Assign the first 4 questions from section 1. Determine why the Age of Exploration occurred when it did. In other words, why not 100 years earlier or 100 years later.
October 10 - Continue handout of questions 1-21 from section 1. ** Write a paragraph highlighting Columbus from the Opposing Viewpoints on p.192-193 Slant it to support him as more hero than villian or vice versa.
October 11 - Continue discussion of section 1 handout.
October 12 - Read section 2 in class. Divide into 6 groups. Each group takes a page of the section and develops two questions. Go over and discuss upon completion. Compare questions to those of worksheet on sections 2 and 3.
October 15 - Worksheet on section 2 and 3 of Chapter 6 has questions 22-32. Discuss upon completion charting number 7 on the board. (Triangular trade including places and items) Give puzzle for homework.
October 16 - Go over puzzle puzzle. BEGIN and COMPLETE REVIEW OF CHAPTER 6.
October 17 - Take TEST on Chapter 6 - The Age of Exploration ***( WH II 4 a-f, 5 e )
October 18 - Give curriculum framework of 22 questions on WHII.4 ( '03 version ) Allow group work to copy and discuss. Go over upon completion.
October 19 - Give 28 question Flanagan quiz on WHII.4
( '04 version )
October 22 - Finish going over WHII.4. Introduce Chapter 8 and lecture on section 1 dealing with the three Islamic empires. This chapter will now become critical since WHII.5 (a-d) is now included in EOC testing. Use page 246-249 to write down 6 pieces of information about Suleyman.
October 23 - Partner up to compare info. Discuss most important ones. Begin to discuss the 18 question handout on Chapter 8. Go over first 10 questions.
October 24 - Look at Conquerors video on Suleyman. October 25 - Finish video on Suleyman. Wrap up video with discussion of accomplishments and tragedies by writing a paragraph
October 26 - Finish Chapter 8 worksheet of questions 11 - 18.
October 29 - Prepare for Flanagan quiz on WHII.5.
Briefly go over selected notes from Chapter 9 which includes a look at China and Japan.
October 30 - Take WHII.5 Flanagan quiz and go over. 15 questions worth 30 points
October 31 - Begin Chapter 7 on Crisis and Absolutism in Europe. Read section 1 and write down 5 items of importance. Discuss briefly upon completion. Give handout of this section to help supplement material.This aligns with WHII.6b
November 1 - Go over section 1 handout of Chapter 7. Add lecture notes to handout if needed to supplement material in section 1.
November 2 - Lecture on section 2 of Chapter 7 which includes the Thirty Years' War.
November 5 - Guy Fawkes Day!! Read the handout. Students read pages 219-221 and write down 3 pieces of information. Go over and re-emphasize the divine right of kings, civil war in England, restoration, and the Glorious Revolution. ( available in handout )
November 6 - Introduce the term absolutism on p.223. Mention Richelieu and Mazarin. Show 9 minute video on Louis XIV.
November 7 - Lab Day in library. Do lessons: Tudors and Stuarts and Romanov Dynasty
November 8 - 4 hour early release Puzzle for 3rd period

November 12 - Read selected passages in old blue book ( 410-412 ). Take notes on Louis's mistakes.
Look at Prussia and Russia with empahasis on what Peter the Great did. Take mock quiz on ruling families of Spain, England, and France as well as Prussia and Russia. Look at the difference in their absolutism.
November 13 - List some of Peter's reforms from old blue book. Begin the video on Peter the Great which does a good job of showing how he dragged Russia out of the Dark Ages. ( 50 minutes in length )
November 14 - Finish video on Peter the Great. Discuss upon completion.
November 15 - Discuss selected material from pages 231-233 emphasizing Hobbes and Locke. Complete crossword puzzle to supplement chapter information.
November 19 - Review for Chapter 7 test.
November 20 - Take test on Chapter 7. Go over upon completion. ( This test covers WHII 6b )
November 21 - 2 hour early release

November 26 - Begin Chapter 10 on Revolution and Enlightenment. Read section 1 and respond to the 16 question handout. Discuss who you feel made the biggest contributions and why you chose them. This section covers ** WHII 6a. Heavy emphasis on Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, Newton, and Harvey.
November 27 - Lecture on highlighted material from pages 300-301. Assign names for classwork as well as homework to know
November 28 - Use video from library to view and discuss The Age of Enlightenment Use colored pencils and paper to draw items to help identify the figures from sections 1 and 2 of chapter 10. Have groups of three design 2 drawings. Others will attempt to identify the individual the drawing is about.
November 28 - Lab day in Library. The following lessons should be completed: The Enlightenment, plus the American Revolution.
November 29 - Look at some of the drawings from yesterday. Do puzzle on first two sections of Chapter 10 to help reinforce names. ( 6th period will have their Lab day to work on lessons from Nov. 20 )
December 3 - Read and discuss section 3 material which highlights enlightened absolutism, plus the 7 Years War
December 4 - School play will take up most of the afternoon. 3rd period will go to library and work on the ALS lessons on the French Revolution.
December 5 - Discuss the Portuguese and Spanish Empires in the Americas from section 4 of chapter 10. Do section 4 handout which includes the American Revolution.
December 6 - Go over section 4 handout putting special emphasis on Louverture and Simon Bolivar. Use assessment of various questions on last page of Chapter 10. - Study for tomorrow's test on Chapter 10 by using the handout of questions. The test is composed of 20 multiple choice items and 15 matching items that cover SOL 6a,d.
December 7 - Take test which includes this discussion question ( graded or ungraded - my choice ) : Explain how political philosophies of the Enlightenment contributed to future events.
December 10 - Give wrap up quiz on absolutism and Enlightenment ( 31 questions ) Write down the correct answer. Go over after completion.
December 11 - Begin Chapter 11 on the French Revolution. Discuss highlighted material centering around the Three Estates. Handout on identifying estates available.
December 12 - Review Three estates. Use handout identifying those estates. Lecture on highlighted material. Use Guided Reading 11-1 to supplement understanding. This will be homework
December 13 - Check Guided Reading 11-1. Begin section 2 of Chapter 11. - Lab day in library. Do 2 lessons: French Revolution I and II ( 5th and 6th periods )
December 14 - Lecture and discuss the radical factions, put spectrum of political opinion from '03 book on the board, mention Robespierre and the reign of terror. Finish reading remainder of section 2 for homework. Give handout on Marie Antoinette.
December 17 - Review yesterday's notes. Discuss remainder of that section. Begin work on section 3 handout.
December 18 - Video on the Guillotine.(Run time is about 50 minutes.) Take notes on pgs. 340-342 on Crushing Rebellion and dechristianization. Discuss 342-343 including coup d'etat.

January 23 - Look at and discuss the Congress of Vienna in section 2 including the ideologies of conservatism and liberalism.
January 24 - 4 hour early dismissal End of 1st semester.

January 29 - Write a paragraph on the Revolutions of 1848 including where they took place, what they hoped to achieve, and how successful they were.
January 30 - Read and discuss section 3 on the unification of Italy and Germany. Begin looking at Guided Reading Activity to help supplement this section. Key names for 7c and d are Garibaldi, Cavour, and Bismarck.
January 31 - Use 5 question handout review on German and Italian Unification. Work on Chapter 12 puzzle. February 1 - NO SCHOOL - ICE
February 4 - Section 4 of Chapter 12 deals with Romanticism and Realism plus several key figures. Read and discuss this section to close out the chapter.Use portion of Guided Reading to highlight Realism and Romanticism plus big names like Jenner and Pasteur
February 5 - Lab day in library. Lessons from ALS include Industrial Revolution I and II, plus German unification and Italian nationalism if not already done. Include Socialism as a lesson, plus France in the 1800's.

February 8 - Begin work on Chapter 13. Establish Karl Marx as the BIG name. Read the first section in class and work on section 1 handout of questions. Briefly go over several WH II .7 questions for quiz tomorrow.
February 11 - Student teacher Brady Price begins a 10 week experience for 3rd and 7th periods
** I will spend a bare minimum on Ch. 13 so that Ch. 14 on Imperialism can begin at the same time in all classes. This will put us ahead of last year by several weeks. Go over section 1 handout. February 18 - Use Reading Essentials from section 4 to highlight Einstein and Freud as well as Darwin and modernism. Give puzzle to work on in groups
February 19 - Review material for Chapter 13 test tomorrow. Have students write down three possible questions. Comment on choices. Then give review sheet.

February 14 - 15 Lecture on section 2 concerning imperialism in Africa. Use video on Imperialism ( 8 min. 47 sec. ) to show how brutal Belgium was in the Congo. Use political cartoon of African imperialism to help supplement. Show the ancient wonder- the Colossus to show play on words in number 3 question on cartoon. Use Boer War question from WH II.8 to reinforce reading on p. 441.
February 18 - Continue section 2 discussing apartheid in South Africa.

February 28 - Begin Chapter 15 which highlights imperialism in China and Japan. Lecture and discuss The Opium War, the Tai Ping Rebellion, and spheres of influence. Give political cartoon to examine concerning the carving up of China.
February 29 - Read about the Open Door Policy and the Boxer Rebellion on pages 470-471. Take notes on discussion that follows.
March 3 - From section 3 on the Rise of Modern Japan, understand the implications of the Treaty of Kanagawa, by looking at Perry's arrival. Look at the Meiji Restoration which turned Japan into a "modern society". Mention Russo-Japanese War. 10 question quiz is available
March 4 - QUIZ on Imperialism.
March 5 - Begin Chapter 16 on W.W. I. Mention the 5 causes of the war as well as the spark that started the war. Take notes on this plus when the war was fought. Section 1 quiz will be taken after review
March 6 - 10 question quick quiz on section 1 of Chapter 16. Lab day in library. Work on the ALS lessons World War I and the Russian Revolution
March 7 - Review causes from yesterday. Comment on Germany's Schlieffen Plan. Section 2 handout is available after lecturing on highlighted material.
March 10 - Continue looking at section 2 material on pages 503-509. The terms stalemate, attrition, and propaganda will be discussed.Look at reasons why the U. S. entered the war. Give section 2 handout for homework.
March 11 - Grade section 2 handout. Lecture briefly on the 3rd section. In class plus homework assignment is to write a 2-3 paragraph summation of the Russian Revolution
March 30 - Take up their paragraphs. Compare to mine.Then give handout on the Russian Revolution. Look at web site on Anastasia. Its located in the favorites. Give pertinent info including Rasputin and massacre. ** Look for information below Begin a two day internet search on Anastasia and the Romanov family. Two good sites are:

April 25 - Spend the day dicussing the Soviet Union in section 2. Do section handout 17-2 and check. Read and note Nazism in section 3 beginning on p. 548. Write down 5 items concerning Hitler. Give puzzle to work on.
April 26 - Go over puzzle answers. Look at section 1 of Chapter 18 on Nationalism Around the World. Discuss the Massacre of the Armenians.Discuss Gandhi from section 2.
April 27 - Look at section 3 of chapter 18. Read and discuss Chiang Kai-shek, and Mao Zedong.
April 30 - Give chapter 17 & 18 review sheet.
May 1 - TEST ON CHAPTERS 17 & 18. View and take notes on the video History of the 20th Century ( 1930-1939 ) This is a very good interwar period look. It is tilted toward America during the '30's. ( OPTIONAL )
Look at '03 version of WHII.10. Discuss some of the 14 questions Continue video and discussion of it.
May 2 - Give WHII.10 '04 version of 16 questions Go over 16 questions upon completion. This is a 32 point quiz. Continue video on History of the 20th Century ( 1930 -1939 ) Will not show in '07. Homework - List Hitler's acts of aggression from the first section of Chapter 19.
May 3 -Check homework on Hitler's acts of aggression. section. Discuss the steps of Germany's aggression as well as Japan's early movements. At least 2 days will be needed to discuss material.
May 4 - Discuss from section 2 Germany's early successes. The Battle of Britain, and the German march into Russia
May 5 - Finish discussion of yesterday. Show film on Axis victories.
May 8 - Continue working on section 2 of Chapter 19 which include the 3 turning points of the war.
*** ( If Available ) Lab Day. Work on Marco Polo in the lab. The lesson on "Remembering Pearl Harbor" is excellent.
May 9 - Watch the film " Allied Victory " A 10 question quiz may be used. ** If time allows
