The verb Tener (to have) is widely used in Spanish.
1. Memorize the present tense forms of this verb (put it in your "Verb Chart &/or make a flashcard. Keep it on hand as you do StudySpanish.com lessons.
2. Venir (to come) conjugates very much like Tener. Review them together by re-reading lesson #22 and taking the mini-test.
3. Just as in English, Tener is used to express obligation - meaning to talk about what you "have" to do. Read about it in lesson #23 and do the basic quiz.
4. Tener is used in a lot of idiomatic (& amusing!) ways. There are more in lesson #24 than you'll have to learn in our book, but it's good & fun to get familiar with all of them. Read the lesson, then do the mini-test.
If you have time left - follow the link to Quia games & review a topic you n
eed to work on.

StudySpanish.com
Warm-up by going to the Verb Drills tab & choosing -ar verbs only
Then, under the Grammar tab, do "Weather Expressions"
Wih your remaining time, you may research Tex-Mex cuisine and find a recipe that you would like to bring on Monday. Please include a description of the recipe & what makes it "Tex-Mex"
If you are unable to cook, you may be able to bring plates, cups, drinks or "tortillas". These accompany everything!
Feb 16-20
Practice -ar verb conjugation
visit www.studyspanish.com as often as possible and spend 5 min on verb drills
As always, review vocab!
Feb 9-13
This week we are adding 2 new verbs to be memorized & recited:
Ir - to go
Voy Vamos
Vas Vais
Va Van
Jugar (Hoogar) - to play
Juego (Waygo) Jugamos (hoo-gah-mose)
Juegas (Waygahs) Jugais (hoo-gah-ees)
Juega (Waygah) Juegan (Waygahn)
Homework: through page 36 in the workbook
write 6 sentences (1 for each subject)for each;
- an -AR verb
- Ir
- Jugar
We will also learn the weather phrases on p 102.
****************************************************************
In the computer lab, go to www.studyspanish.com and read lesson #28. Having your -AR verb endings at hand will make the Basic Quiz much easier. They include some -ER & -IR verbs, but don't worry- just sook for the pattern in the endings (they are virtually identical except where -AR verbs use "a", -ER verbs use "e".
Next go to the "Verb Drills" tab at the top, then choose present tense, regular -AR verbs. Choose 25 items & include vosotros. (If that seemed easy try #8 "stem changing u-ue" verbs and or #9 "Ir & Dar". Again, look for patterns. Although you haven't had "Dar" it very similar to "Ir")
When finished:
you may go to Quia Games (spanish)
OR
Search for Tex-Mex recipes for our end of chapter 3 food sampling. Each class can bring their own food, since this is the type of Latin American food that we are most familiar with. Bring a description of your dish and it's origins for extra credit.
Having missed several days and parts of days, I thought I would try to make sure we are all up-to-date.
We have made our way through page 98 in the textbook
- Workbook pages through p 34 should be completed
- Complete a paragraph about you & your best friend, telling:
#1 What you like (noun)
#2 What your friend likes
#3 What you like to do (verb) together
#4 What you both don't like
- Students recently made a set of cards to practice conjugating the -AR verb of their choice. They should begin to memorize the conjugation of that verb & be prepared to recite it. For example:
Hablar - to speak
Hablo Hablamos
Hablas Hablais
Habla Hablan
**There will be a quiz on Chapter 3 Vocab 2 on Tues. Feb. 10**
Throughout the year, we will continue to have short "pop quizzes" on the current vocab words.
-
Friday, January 30
Computer Lab
-Bring your "Verb of the Day" Charts & a pen/pencil
-Another idea which I stronly suggest, is to make a flash card for each verb;
English Infinitive & definition on one side/Spanish Infinitive and Conjugation on the other side.
1) Go to Grammar Lesson #22 about Tener & Venir. (These verbs follow the same pattern as Querer, so it makes sense to learn them at the same time)
http://www.studyspanish.com/lessons/tenven.htm
Read the lesson, add these verbs to your charts, and keep them handy as you do Basic Quiz #1
2) Grammar Lesson #10 - again; Read the lesson, add these verbs to your charts, and keep them handy as you do Basic Quiz #1
NOTE: This is the "Big Picture". We will be working with -AR verbs next week, then Tener & -ER/IR verbs in chapter 4.
3) When you are finished at StudySpanish.com, go to www.quia.com/web
choose "spanish"
Search Keyword "Regular Verbs"
Choose a game that you like! You may also play any game related to a topic covered in class.
****************************************************************

Today you will register as a student at StudySpanish.com:
In order to do this you will need a GHS email account. If you don't have one, give Senora Ribbe your first initial, last name & graduation year. You won't be able to complete registration without it, but you can still use the site today. Get headphones & plug them into the green jack.
You will need my teacher ID: EJZK9CRC
You can copy & paste this, but if you pick up a "space" when you copy, it won't be able to read it. Getting all of the little e-mail/ID/password details perfect can take a while, but hang in there!
When you finally get registered, go to Pronunciation in the top bar. Now you may need to fiddle with headphones. We're just trying to get set up today & get all of our systems working. If you make it this far, try some of the vowel pronunciation activities.
Have fun & visit this site often!
If you have time, visit the textbook site at the first link below.
