Wow! Less than 30 days left! The year is really moving along! The more you put into something, the more you will get in return!  Let's continue to work together and give all our opportunities all we have and then reap the benefits.

Guitar

All members of both classes will be on independent study for the last six weeks.  Each one will examine the book and write down a minimum of 6 songs or exercises that they will play for me.  Through that lists we will work together to finish up the year.  My hopes is that they will all feel like keeping the guitar a part of their lives after leaving the class.  With the basics under their belts, they can continue to follow whatever musical style in which they are interested.

Music Theatre

Random discussions and relating them to the drama we all experience in life is the focus of the class presently.

Choir

We continue working on the enjoyment of singing!  We are practicing participating and feeling comfortable singing with others daily.

We sing with the piano and tapes and CD's each day.

Symphonic Chorale

PLEASE NOTE THE CALENDAR OF EVENTS AT THE END OF THIS PAGE FOR BOTH THE CHORALE AND WOMEN'S CHORUS.

Symphonic Chorale and Choral Ensemble have been  working hard on festival pieces and Spring pieces.

We continue to work on proper breathing, proper vowels sounds and correct notes as we rehearse songs for the spring.  We are currently working on Nusic Is The Way, The Pledge of Allegiance, and Seasons Of Love.  We have a warmup entitled Student Logic that Jamie Suroski has shared with us from his Concord University groups and we are focusing on the Doxology and Alma Mater. We are preparing for our Spring Concert on June 1 at 7:00 pm.

Choral Ensemble is going well and we continue practicing on Mondays.  We will plan to practice each Monday evening from 7-8:30.  Attendance is crucial!  We are cincentrating now on Spring music and keeping the festival pieces in check.

We had a wonderful trip to Atlanta.  The Braves game and singing the anthem at Turner Stadium was fantastic!!  Both groups sang well in competition and earned Silver - Outstanding ratings.  All the activities and sightseeing oportunities went very well and indeed came home happy but tired!

New Chorale officers will be elected on June 9th.  If you are interested in being an officer, see Mr. M and plan to be a leader in next year's group!

Women's Chorus

We are working on our group sound while concentrating on several vocal fundamentals.  We have established and second part section or Alto section and they are doing better every day.  We are working on Spring music now and are also working on the song "Student Logic".  Just as with the Chorale, the girl's may be telling you I am teaching them not to study!!  Just ask them about that!  We are working on a song in Spanish called Dos Cancioncitas.  In Latin, we are working on Pacem Alleluia and Agnus Dei that we will used for competition.  We are working on a two part arrangement of Selections from "Annie" and Candle on the Water.  Our Spring Concert will be with the Chorale on June 1, at 7 pm.

Ambassadors

Ambassadors continue welcoming guests and being of service to Giles High School.  We have finished all Volleyball, Football, and basketball games.  We have two SODA visits under our belts and our third visit will hopefully happen.  A big thankx goes out to them for all their work helping with the 7th grade visits, Open House, and Macy Winter Festival.  All is well!!

Anthony Woodyard represented GHS at the All Virginia Chorus event this year held at Massaponox High School, in Fredericksburg, VA.  He did a great job and congrats to his being selected as the top Bass 2 in District 7.  The directors and Choirs at All Virginia were amazing!!

All parents from our Choir, Chorale, and Women's Chorus are encouraged to help out with all Choral Booster activities.  Concerts will be June 1 and we hope to see all of you there. We need some to usher and hand out programs, and help us with refreshments.
