Hello and welcome. I'm so sorry I haven't updated this for a week or so! I hope to do better in the future.

Language Arts:

Our story this week will be "Wild Shots: They're My Life". This is another nonfiction piece. Several of the students had trouble with our last story, Balto, mainly because it was a nonfiction story. These stories are often harder to read and are not as enjoyable for the students. Please read and discuss the story nightly with your child.

We will be focusing on singular and plural nouns, as well as common and proper nouns this week. There will be a quiz on these topics near the end of the week.

Social Studies:

We have begun our unit on Ancient Greece! We will be learning many different things about Greece. We will concentrate on the country's physical characteristics and also the human characteristics of the ancient Greeks. We will also be learning about the different city-states, their contribution to our government, their arcitecture, and the Olympics.

After Greece we will move into Ancient Rome and learn about their contributions to the world.

Science:
We are now learning about the water cycle and the 3 states of matter. They need to know what happens during each step of the cycle. Some key words they need to know are:
evaporation, condensation, precipitation, collection, solid, liquid, and gas.

If you ever need to contact me please do not hesitate. You can email me at: sherim@gilesk12.org, you may also call the school and leave a message and I will return your call as soon as I have a break. Please keep in mind this might not be until after the 3:30 bell. You may also simply send a note with your child or write in their planner.

There most likely will be homework every night except for Fridays. Please check your child's planner nightly and sign the bottom so that I know you saw it. By doing this the kids know that their parents and teacher know they are copying down their homework and that it was completed.

I want to thank you in advance for your support. I know that if we all work together this year we will be a great team. I look forward to working with you as we shape your child's future. Thanks and have a great day!

Sincerely,

Miss Miller
