Welcome! You will find information regarding the units of study in my seventh grade English classes.  My goal is to help students become confident and proficient readers and writers. Don't forget to add your name and email address to the "Notify" list so that you will receive an email every time I update Schoolnotes.  Often times, daily assignments aren't posted because I list assignments on the agenda board in class; students are responsible for writing assignments in their agenda books daily.

Downriver Novel Unit:
Nine chapter quizzes – to be completed by Wednesday, January 25 at the beginning of class.

Handout Due: Wednesday, January 25 at the beginning of class (100 points)

We are almost finished our novel, Downriver.  Students will read chapters 15 and 16 on Monday in class and chapters 17 and 18 on Tuesday. If students don’t finish the chapters in class they will need to finish those chapters for homework.  The novel is about eight teenagers that have been sent to Camp Discovery Unlimited. The eight characters have been learning internal and external lessons – lessons such as: learning how to trust, responsibility, self-reflection, self-control, and genuine kindness.  We’ve had some very thoughtful discussions about the eight characters.  I’d like to finish this unit with a project that will remind us of this story and what we’ve learned. A character in the novel gives a new friend a friendship bracelet.

We’re going to make friendship bracelets. This will be a good opportunity for students to make a product by following directions – SOL 7.6. Students will be given explicit directions that they are to follow. We will be starting the assignment in class on Wednesday. If students don’t finish during class, they will be required to finish the assignment at home and bring it to class on Thursday.

I need help from parents:
I will need lots of embroidery floss (cross-stitch thread). I also need two skeins of yarn, one black and one gold. I’d like to have them by next Tuesday. I will need to cut the thread and yarn into pieces.  We’ll take any colors, but I have a feeling several students would like to make bracelets out of Bobcat colors ☺  If anyone would like to donate a large roll of masking tape too that would be appreciated. Let your kids pick the colors ☺ They know what they’d like.

I only need about 30 skeins of thread, so if people could send a couple skeins each – that would be helpful.

Commonly Misused Words Test:
Tuesday, January 24. – 100 points
Students were given a review sheet for the test.

New Semester:
New semester begins Wednesday, January 18. Most students are in need of new binders, more loose-leaf paper and pencils. Please check your child's backpack and help them clean out and organize materials.
