First I want to thank each of you for a wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week. The cards, flowers, candy and the wonderful luncheon are more appreciated than you know!! A BIG thanks to the PTO for the Script gift certificate. It is such a pleasure to teach your children, they are a delight and a joy to me.
We have so much to do these last couple of weeks of school, a lot of material to cover. I will try to not overwhelm your child with homework but some will be necessary even though I realize they are involved with soccer and outside activities.
The children will be choosing a Jan Brett book to write a book report this week. They will need to include characters, setting, problem, solution, beginning, middle and end of the story. I will send home a sheet with directions and some ideas of how they may do their report, as well as the due date.
In Math we will continue number patterns to 1,000 and place value. There will also be a quiz over multiplication of 0's, 1's, 2's and 3's by Friday. They really only have to know up to six (2x6, 3x6, etc.) according to the consensus curriculum for 2nd grade but they may go up to ten for extra credit.
We will have a chapter test on Thursday and begin the chapter on geometry, fractions and probability on Friday.
We will finish studying the Ten Commandments and making good choices (sin, grace); Chapter test on Friday.
In Fifth grade Religion, we will continue with our study of Cardinal and Theological Virtues, and the Holy Spirit. On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons we will view the Human Sexuality Videos with discussion.
In Science we begin our study of the Sun and Earth, the rotation of the planets around the Sun; what causes day and night and the seasons, etc. I do have a review planned for Friday with a test next Monday.
