Hello Third Graders and Parents:

I want to thank all of you for such a wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week.  Thank you very much for your gifts of cards, flowers, candy and a scrip gift certificate.  As I am moving into a new house on June 5, I will certainly find a good use for the scrip.  The luncheon was very enjoyeable as well.

What a fabulous Spring Fling!  Thank you for all your help with everything.

Thank you for turning in your Oak Hlll permission forms.  If you haven't turned yours in yet, please do so as soon as possible.  It is a wonderful field trip, and I invite all of you to join us.  The students will have many activities to get ready for the day.  If you have any questions, please contact me.

Our topics of study for this week are:

SPELLING
Oak Hill Words.  Congratulations to last week's spelling bee winners Alex Faylor, Joshua Mai, and McKinley Rhinehart.

MATH - We will begin our last math chapter - multiplying and dividing with greater numbers.

SCIENCE 3  We are studying machines.

SOCIAL STUDIES-We have completed our Social Studies book.  The rest of this year will be spent on the History of our area.  The students will research an area business and write a report about it.  Please see directions below.  The students will also receive a copy.

History of Bristol Area Business Report

1.  Select an area business.  Please do not select your family's business.

2.  Research and report on the following information about your business:

    a. Current address
    b.  Current products or services provided
    c.  Current number of employees
    d.  When the business began- Did it have the name it has now?
    e.  How the business began and who began it
    f.  Were there any famous people who worked there or owned it
    g.  What is the business's contribution to our area economically?
    h.  What is the business's historical importance.
    i.  Any other facts

3.  Select your business by Wed. May 7.  You are to tour the business.

4.  You are to interview a person who works there.  Document who this person is at the end of your report.

5.  Your report is to be at least one page long.

6.  Please have interview questions for me to see by Friday, May 9 (or before).

7.  Rough draft due Monday, May 19.

8.  Final copy due Friday, May 23.

9.  Also due with the report is a brochure you will make for your business.  I will show you how to make a tri-fold brochure.  Your brochure must include the name and address of the business, some pictures (drawn or glued), and something about its products or services.

READING - No book report this month.  We are now reading Frindle.
