Week of May 25,2009

Reading: This week we will read "Two Bad Ants."
There will be a test this Friday May 29th.
This test will include the vocabulary words,
and students will write a few sentences about
what happened in the beginning, middle, and end
of the story. There will not be any specific
fact or skill questions related to the story.
         Example of vocabulary:
         1. Each ant carried a ________ of sugar back
            to the Queen.   crystal
Please have your child read the story at
least twice a week, even if you spread it
over four days. This will help your child
         with word recognition,comprehension,and
fluency. Even if you alternate reading pages
with him/her it will be a BIG help towards
         improving reading skills.

Language: This week we will be working with commas and
quotation marks. A comma is used in a
compound sentence, to separate words in a
series, after a greeting and closing in a
friendly letter, between a city and state,
and between the day and year in a date.

          Examples:
          1. Jeremy said,"I want to sing a song."
          2. "Everyone will enjoy your song," said
              Ms. Foster.

                in transportation, communication,
