For this Monday and Tuesday, we have lots of fun activities planned! We will be learning about the Southwest and Eastern Woodland Indians. Students will write a story using symbols, do an indian painting on sandpaper, experiment with objects to find things that repel water, make a canoe, and make a wampum beaded belt. Students will also watch the 4th and 5th grade finalists in the school Spelling Bee on Monday, and be entertained by the Chinese Acrobats on Tuesday.
**DON'T FORGET STUDENTS NEED TO BRING IN AN EMPTY WATER BOTTLE OR POP BOTTLE, AND ANY OTHER ITEM THEY WISH TO ADD TO THEIR INDIAN ITEMS SUCH AS: FEATHERS, BEADS, BUTTONS, TWINE, ETC. SOME SUPPLIES ARE AVAILABLE IN THE CLASSROOM.
**I WILL BE LEAVING ON A FAMILY TRIP TO MY PARENT'S HOME IN FLORIDA FOR THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY. I WILL NOT BE BACK TO SCHOOL UNTIL WEDNESDAY, DEC. 2ND. MRS. STARCHER WILL BE THE SUBSTITUTE IN MY CLASSROOM. BECAUSE OF THIS, I AM GOING AHEAD AND INCLUDING THE PLANS FOR THE WEEK STUDENTS RETURN. HERE'S WHAT'S COMING UP.........
READING - We will be reading the story, "Pushing Up the Sky". The genre for this story is a play. The vocabulary words to know are: antlers, imagined, languages, narrator, overhead, poked. The test on this story will be on Friday, 12/4.
SPELLING - Our words contain the prefixes -un, -re,
-mis, and -dis. The core words are: unhappy, recall, disappear, unload, mistake, misspell, dislike, replace, mislead, disagree, rewrite, unroll, unknown, dishonest, react. The challenge words are: unfortunate, discourage, uncomfortable, recycle, mispronounce. Dictation Sentences: 1. The baby cries when he is unhappy. 2. My book will disappear if I leave it there. The test on these words and sentences will be on Friday, 12/4.
GRAMMAR - We will focus on Main and Helping Verbs.
MATH - We will continue with Chapter 3 working on subtracting three digit numbers and numbers with zeros.
SCIENCE - We are finishing Chapter 4. Students will complete a study guide on Wednesday (12/2) The test on this chapter will be on Tuesday, Dec. 8th.
SOCIAL STUDIES - We will work on the last region of the United States, the Southeast region. Students will have a map quiz to label the states and capitals on Thursday, 12/3. A study guide map will come home on Monday nov. 30th.
