EOG, things to think about, especially for parents...
1. The EOG's are this upcoming Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (May 13-15). Math is Wednesday and Thursday.
2. Students need to memorize the formulas for
*volume of a prism and cylinder,
*area of triangle, circle, and rectangle,
*surface area of a cylinder.
I reccommend that the first thing they do when they start the test is write down these formulas on a piece of scrap paper.
3. Students should be using test taking strategies when they do the math packet (highlighting important information as they read questions, cover answer/work problem/see if answer matches one of the choices as applicable)
4. Make sure your child has plenty of sleep (9-10 hours reccommended the nights before the test) and a healthy energizing breakfast each morning. Many teens are texting, watching tv and playing video games through the night instead of sleeping.
5. We have a math test on Monday that should also help your child prepare for the EOG.
6. Tuesday, the red Math EOG folders with the assessments and study calendar are due.
Any assistance you can give in helping your child prepare is greatly appreciated. Math scores can be greatly impacted with studying and practice. There are also many resources on the team and school website. Our goal is growth, not just a 3 or a 4.

Science and Math:
Today we had an EOG assessment and our science test. Science study calendars were also collected. After the testing, students worked on their writing prompts. Students were to plan their papers using a graphic organizer and write their rough drafts. The rough draft needs to be completed and edited for homework. Tomorrow we will type the final papers. The following email was sent to all parents on the Razorback email list:
"Dear Razorback Families,
Today in class, students had the opportunity to start writing the rough draft for their science paper which is part of the 7th grade writing assessment. Please help your child edit their rough drafts this evening. The rough drafts (with edits)are due tomorrow and must include a works cited section.
Attached are the specific directions for the paper. We have been conducting research and having discussions related to the paper since Friday. Students were given a graphic organizer for helping to organize their work.
It is important to note that this is an evaluative paper and not a persuasive paper. The main question in the prompt that needs to be addressed is "Why do you think that restaurants have banned the use of cigarettes and not alcohol?". This should be the focus of the paper, not "what do you think they should do". Please see the directions attached. The paper must be between 400 -700 words in length plus the works cited section. The works cited section is not considered in the word count.
Please help your child with the editing process and make sure they have a rough draft that is ready to be typed for tomorrow. I suggest that students bring a flash drive or disk tomorrow to save their computer work.
Also, attached is a flyer from Fuquay High School about a science night they are conducting. Students who attend and write 1/2 page about their experience can earn 20 extra credit points towards the "homework" category for the fourth quarter.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jesrani "

Pre Algebra/Science: Tell the students that their math homework, genetic vocabulary cards and genetic activities will be checked tomorrow. Pass out the McDougal Littell Science Books. They are located on the shelf towards the back of the room (same side of room as the door). Write the following assignment on the board.
Read pages 134-141 in section C. Make a supporting main ideas chart (see sample on page 134) for each blue and red heading within the reading. Answer questions 1-4 on page 141.
On the same paper… For each genetics vocabulary index card (that were due today for homework) make a word square or a word triangle or a frame game or a magnet word. For each
word, you choose which type of graphic organizer to use. Directions for the graphic organizers are on page 134 C of the text book. . If you do not have your index cards, refer to the words on
