INTRODUCTION LETTER
Welcome to Ms. Scherr-Freedman’s class (you can call me Ms. S-F)! I’ll be teaching science and I’m looking forward to a great year with Quasars team. Science will be “hands-on” and will be based primarily on labs and activities. You will be required to keep a notebook in science.
Below is some information that might make your year go more smoothly. Please return the last page signed after you go over this information with your parents.
I Supplies (Bring these to class every day) See team supply list
Agenda- (This will be provided for you by the school) You are to bring your agenda to class and copy all assignments daily. Quiz grades will be taken from this agenda so copy those assignments for an easy 100%.
Parents- I will highlight missed assignments in the agenda so that you will be aware if your child has missed work. Please check this agenda at least once a week, and initial the agenda on Thursday Evenings. If your child has a history of missing work, check the agenda on a regular basis. It is my intention to keep you informed and to head off any problems before they become a threat to your child’s success.
II Assignments / Make-up work
You are to copy your assignments from the board daily. You are to choose a “study buddy” (or two) that you can call or copy assignments from when you return to class after an absence. This study buddy is also to collect any handouts that were distributed in class the day or days that you missed. There is a notebook at the front of the room that will contain a copy of all hand outs and notes. It is your responsibility to get any missed assignments and arrange for make-up work. Please refer to Wake County guidelines about make–up work due to excused absences. There will be a master copy of all handouts and notes in a notebook at the front of the room (please do not remove anything from this notebook). There will be copies of all handouts in a box next to the notebook.
Homework and class work must be turned in on time. Late homework (other than for absences) will not be accepted. Since homework is preparation for the next class or practice, it is graded on completion, not correctness. Projects and major assignments that are turned in late will loose 10 pts. on the 1st late day. Work turned in more than one day late will receive a zero. (Please discuss any extenuating circumstances with me prior to the due date)
• All science assignments may be completed on a computer unless other directions are given.
III Grading – I AM LOOKING FOR QUALITY WORK!
Science 15% Homework (100, 70, 0)
15% Class work and Participation
30% Quizzes and Projects
40% Tests and Lab reports
Interim reports will be sent home every quarter so please keep an eye out for these. If you do not see them please contact me. I will also send them home electronically if I have your email.
