EOG Testing is Here!

We are busy reviewing and preparing for the End of Grade Testing, otherwise known as, EOG. We are doing lots of review and practice in class and hopefully your child is bringing home the EOG practice homework so you know what we are working on each day. We are practicing strategies and I am encouraging the children so they will feel confident when testing begins. All of the EOG tests are not timed so there is no stress on not being able to take their time and finish. They will be given as much time as needed. I have told the children that they do not need to get them all right, but they should take their time and make sure they don't miss any due to carelessness.

Please help by making sure your child gets a good night sleep each night before testing. The county will provide breakfast in the classroom for every child at no cost on Monday and Tuesday morning. If your child normally eats at home and has a finicky stomach I would encourage them to be careful about changing their routine. Please just encourage your child, but don't stress them. If they have performed well all year in class they should be able to show what they know on the tests. I am confident they will do their best and do well for Carver. We will only receive scores back for math. If they do not pass the math active and/or inactive the first time they will be given the test again up to two times as a retake to give them an opportunity to pass. I hope this will not be necessary for any child.

End of Year Wrap Up

The last week children may check out library books is May 12-16. All library books are due the week of May 19. I will be checking textbooks that were assigned to your child and if I must assess fines I will send notification by your child before May 12 and money will be due May 19. Please stress to you child that we are in school until May 30 and I expect the same level of cooperation and respect that they have shown all year. After EOG testing, we will be finishing up our research project, finishing our science unit, finishing up Hands-on-Equations (algebra program), keyboarding, and participating in a cooperative physical education unit on sportsmanship and competitive games.

Class Picnic

As of today, our class picnic will be on Wednesday, May 21. This picnic is for the students and the teachers who work with them. I will be providing pizza for all the students this day. If you are interested in sending in desserts (must be store bought) or canned sodas, please let me know.

Each student also needs to bring in a plain white t-shirt to paint and decorate for wearing on field day. We will decorate these after the class picnic.
