Counselor’s Role
The role of the school counselor is to plan, coordinate and delivery a school wide counseling program that will improve student achievement and enhances the academic, career and personal/social development of all students. The school counselor works closely with parents, teachers, and administrators to promote student success. The school counseling program is delivered through the following services:
Individual Counseling
A confidential, one-on-one helping relationship with a student having educational, personal, behavioral or social difficulties. Students requiring long-term counseling may be referred to practitioners outside the school. Parents, teachers and administrators can refer students to the counselor. Students may self refer by filling out a Counselor gram form available in every classroom.
Small Group Counseling
Three to eight students having similar concerns work together with a counselor to explore and resolve issues. A few examples of group counseling topics include handling divorce, dealing with stress, conflict resolution, developing healthy friendships, and coping with grief and loss. Grouping counseling sessions usually last for 6 –8 weeks.
Classroom Guidance
Classroom guidance lessons will occur on all grade levels. Topics will be based on issues related to effective education.
