The year is rapidly coming to a close. I hope everyone had a great year in First Grade. The next couple of weeks will be very busy ones. We will be doing reading, math and writing assessments, conferences, interims and report cards. Please make all efforts to attend your child’s conference. It may be hard to reschedule.

Wednesday, April 30th Interims go home for those children below level
Friday, May 2nd Early Release
Tuesday, May 6th Election Day. You can come to Carver to Vote.
Thursday, May 22nd RIF. Children will get two books to keep.
Monday, May 26th, Memorial Day-No School
Wednesday, May 28th K-2 Field Day
Friday, May 30th Last Day of School. It will be a Full Day!!!!
I will be doing the reading, writing and math assessments with the children beginning the week of May 5th.
EOG’s will begin the week of May 12th. Please be considerate of the 3-5 grade children if you are in the building.
In reading, we are working on reading stories from our anthologies and talking about the relevant story elements, such as plot, characters, setting, author’s message, main events and making connections.
In math, we are reviewing the skills we learned since the beginning of the year.
In writing, we are using descriptive words, correct capitalization and punctuation. We are working on retelling stories with different graphic organizers.
In science, we are growing sunflowers and monitoring their growth. We are writing down our observations in our science folder.
Thank you for one of the best years I’ve had as a teacher. The children were wonderful to work with and we had a lot of fun. I wish them the best in second grade!!!!
