Week of June 8, 2009
Thanks to those who came to our talent show on Friday. We were so proud of everyone! What talented children you have! We look forward to seeing the rest of you on Monday at 1:30. It's hard to believe we will bring our school year to an end this week. Thanks so much for the all the support you have given us this year. Volunteering in the classroom, chaperoning field trips, sending in what seemed like 1000's of plates, spoons, forks, etc., not to mention the kind words of encouragement, and gifts you showered us with during holidays and teacher appreciation week. The list goes on but we are so grateful for all that you have done to make this such a successful and unforgetable school year. Parents are a big reason why EWA is such a very special place!
This week the children will work in game centers. We will be multiplying, learning how to use a calculator, playing grammar games, using the website Brainpop and more. We look forward to our end of the year celebration on Thursday at Rainbow Lanes.
Have a wonderful and blessed summer. We will miss each of you!
Happy Father's Day to all our dads!
Quote of the Week
“Children will not remember you for the material things you provided but for the feeling that you cherished them.”

Our Centers
Guided Reading: Students will be called during center time to work in small groups with me. We work on reading skills and strategies to read books that are best suited to each specific group’s reading needs. Groups are determined by student’s DRA reading assessment scores and may change frequently throughout the year as students progress.
Reading/Retell: Students will read theme related books and then complete an activity.
Word Center: Students work on various phonics and word skills. They may complete different activities/games using spelling words and vocabulary words.
Writing Center: This is an independent station where students work on journal writing. Students may be given a writing prompt to answer. They are encouraged to use COPS (Capitalization, Organization, Punctuation, Spelling). Students are also allowed to simply free write about stories or events that may be going on in their lives. Students may complete other types of writing assignments such as letters and postcards.
Listening/Recording Center: Students will listen to stories using headphones and complete an activity.
Art Center: Students will complete theme related art projects in this center. Sometimes, we integrate science and social studies in this center.
Computer/Technology:
Students will use the overhead to work on sight word activities.
Students will use the computer to complete reading quizzes on bookadventure.com and play educational games on eduplace.com
Great Things To Do!
1. Read more, watch T.V. less.
2. Help your child with homework but don't do it for them.
3. Read often to your child and let them read to you.
4. Practice math flashcards often!
5. Listen attentively as they tell you about their day.
6. Tell your child how wonderful he/she is each day.
7. Make sure your child goes to bed early, eats a good breakfast and gets to school on time each day!
