EXTRA SUPPLIES?
A "work station", our in-class supply center , is kept on a bookshelf in our classroom. I always want the students to have what they need to complete assignments promptly, thoroughly and successfully. We use this a great deal and, as a result, this frequently needs "re-stocking". If you are able to donate pencil cap erasers and hand-held pencil sharpeners those are the highest demand items currently!
CURRICULUM ASSISTANCE:
This is an 8th grade Study Skills Curriculum Class. The students agendas and work assignments are being monitored and supported through schoolnotes.com. Students maintain a daily point sheet to check to see if their Agenda is being utilized, and recording what they are currently working on for homework. Mini study skills lessons such as goal setting are being explored.
LITERACY CONNECTIONS:
Students work on activities and lessons that promote reading and reading comprehension. Students are writing sentences,paragraphs, poetry and stories using correct grammar, capitalization and punctuation. We will be enjoying novels, poetry, short stories, plays and folktales. We will begin reading the novel, "Tuck Everlasting".Students will also be working with technology via the Scholastic "Read 180" Program.
MATH RESOURCE:
Students are working to become more proficient with basic mathematical operations: addition, subtraction,multiplcation and division. They will also be working with fractions,decimals,graphs, charts and money concepts. Word problems will be presented to them as well.
All in all, it promises to be an exciting year at Dillard Drive Middle School! If you have any questions or concerns, please know that I am here as a support to you and your children.
