Thursday: All core classes- Read "The English Language" poem. Memorize one stanza of your choice. Last two count as 1/2, so memorize both if you choose these two short stanzas. Be prepared to discuss the entire poem, its theme and purpose.
Description:
English in the 7th grade focuses on four major areas: writing, reading, vocabulary development, and grammar usage. Writing includes applying the writing process with descriptive, narrative, expository, persuasive, creative/poetry, literature response, and research writing. The reading curriculum includes a variety of genres, selected short stories, novels, nonfiction/current events, poetry memorization/recital, and independent reading requirements. Vocabulary words are presented in context of authentic literature excerpts and include exercise on definitions, synonyms, antonyms, and application. Grammar includes a review of mechanics, usage, sentence / paragraph development, and self/peer editing skills.
