Week of Nov 17
Today every student received a list of missing 2nd quarter assignments. Students have until Thursday to turn in all missing work. If they do not complete all missing work, they are expected to attend after school detention on Thursday. Students who fail to complete their work and fail to attend ASD will be written up.
Monday - Ch 3 Sec 3 - do two column notes.
Tuesday - Ch 3 Sec 4 - do two column notes.
Wed - Make up work. If you had no missing work listed on your list, you have no homework!
Thur - Current event - I will provide the article.

I am returning Ch 2 tests and Cabbage Juice lab reports today.

Week of Nov 3 - Report cards will be sent home Friday.
Wed - Finish writing your stream essay. I am not collecting the rough draft. Be prepared to hand in your final draft Thursday.
Thurs - Muddy Water Lab - Write the results for your lab. Use lots of good details to describe what happened when you filtered and when you used condensors. Explain why things happened (Infer/Interpret).
Fri - Have a great weekend! Get your report card envelope signed.
Week of Oct 27.
Students who had missing work were given a list of missing work today. They have until Wed to complete the work. If they have not turned in missing work by Wed, they will have after school detention on Wed in order to complete the missing work.
There will be a Ch 2 Sec 1, 2, 3 and 4 test on Thurs. I will have lunchtime test reviews Tues and Wed.
Mon - Current event - PCB article
Tues - Ch 2 Sec 2 - do two column notes.
Wed - Study for Ch 2 test. Know all vocabulary words for sections 1 to 4. Skip section 5. Review all class notes that I have given on pollution, acid rain, pH, chromatography.
Thurs - Write a draft essay that compares and contrasts 2006 vs. 2008 stream water quality data for Swift Creek. Directions will be provided.

Week of Oct 20.
I returned all ink dot lab reports, properties of water stations lab reports and journals today. There are a number of students who have not handed these items in yet. They were reminded today if they are missing these assignments.
Current events and journals will no longer be accepted for credit unless they follow the proper format. If you do not know the proper format, you may take a copy of the format handout from the notebook in the front of the room.

Journals: Science Journals are due today Thursday. They should contain:
1. four current event articles of your choice about science
2. current event - deep drilling article
3. video notes - Bill Nye wetlands
4. video notes - Bill Nye rivers
5. vdeo notes - Troubled Waters
6. You are a molecule in the water cycle. Describe your journey through the cycle. Include all terms on p 16.
7. 16th birthday/ $40,000 car
8. Density blocks data table
9. a) What makes popcorn pop?
b) Will sugar dissolve better in hot or cold water? Why?
c) In a density column containing 3 liquids, which one is most dense?
d)What will dissolve faster in water: sugar granules or a sugar cube.
e) How does salt affect melting point and boiling point?
Week of Oct 6
Tests were returned today. The final grade is written on the bubble sheet. However, part of the test was graded on the last page of the test itself. If you did not do well on this test, be sure to come to my lunch time test reviews for the next test.
Mon - Finish your lab report. Use today's class notes to explain your results. Be sure to complete: hypothesis, results, infer, conclusion, suggestions sections.
Tues - Acid Rain Handout - read both sides; highlight or underline important information on both sides.
Wed - Organize your journal. It is due tomorrow. Your journal should include 5 current events, video notes from 3 videos and all white board entries. I will provide a list of white board entries by Wed.
Week of Sept 29
Please sign and return your childs interim which was sent home on Friday! The Chapter 1 Test will probably be Wednesday, but there is a slight chance that I will delay it until Thursday. I will hold lunch reviews for the test on Mon and Tues.
Mon - Groundwater worksheet; Get interim signed if you have not already done so.
Tues - Study for test. Know all definitions for words listed on page 42. Also review all class notes.
Wed - Read Ch 2 Sec 1. Do two column notes.

Week of Sept 22
Reminder - Fund raiser money is due this week. Picture money is due Tues the 23rd. We will have a Chapter 1 test next week, probably on Tuesday. After school detention has been assigned for Tuesday Sept 23rd to students who are missing more than one assignment.
Mon - Make up Work. Students with missing work were given a list of missing assignments today. All work is due tomorrow. If they have more than one missing assignment from their list on Tuesday, they must stay after school on the 23rd to complete the missing work.

Week of Sept 8
Parents - a number of students are not doing their homework. Please have your child show you their completed homework each night. Students who have missing work will be assigned after school detention to make up the work for partial credit.
Mon - Finish pond lab report; Include: hypothesis, materials,data table with at least 8 organisms, conclusion and suggestions/questions. If you did not see 8 different types of organisms using microscopes, you may add organisms from your website work to your data table. If you do this, the "Source" column should say "website". In the 'Conclusion' discuss the food chain that occurs among pond microorganisms. (Algae are producers because they get energy from the sun through photosynthesis. All other organisms are consumers, they eat each other.) You can include information from your website work sheet too in this paragraph. "Questions/Suggestions" tell what ideas you have about improving this lab or doing another lab on microbes.

Week of August 25
Monday - Write a letter to me. Introduce yourself. Tell me about your intests, hobbies, career interests etc. Tell what I need to know about you to teach you well.
Tues - Read and sign the safety rules sheet. Sign the Science class procedures sheet. Have a parent read and sign both as well.
Wed - Study for quiz. Memorize the Panthers General Behavior Expectations ( These are in the blue covered Panthers Handbook.) Study safety rules handout.
Thurs - Cover your book. We will change books several times this year. If you have a cloth book cover, it will make it easier for you to cover each new book throughout the year. Organize your science binder (4 tabs: homework, classwork, tests/quizes, labs); Clip a thin spiral notebook into the binder for your science journal.
