Supply List for Royal Wolves Team Classes

For Use in All Classes:

  1. 3-inch three ring binder (with D-rings if possible) for L.A., Sci. and S.S
  2. 3 to 5 dividers for binder
  3. 3-hole punched pencil pouch with zipper to go in binder
  4. 3-hole punched pocket folder for use as homework folder (plastic if possible)
  5. 10 sheet protectors for use in various classes
  6. Post-it Notes (3 X 3)
  7. Loose-leaf paper (wide ruled preferred)
  8. Pens (blue and black)
  9. Red Pen (for correcting work)
  10. #2 Pencils and erasers or mechanical pencils with spare lead

THE ITEMS LISTED BELOW ARE MATERIALS NEEDED FOR SPECIFIC SUBJECTS IN ADDITION TO THOSE NEEDED FOR ALL CLASSES

Language Arts: (Ms. Abbey)

  1. 3-hole punched pocket folder (plastic if possible) to go in binder listed above

  2. Composition book (no holes or spirals)

Math: (Ms. Stallings)

  1. One 1.5-2 inch three ring binder (will be collected for grading) 

  2. Two pocket folders with holes (plastic if possible) to go in binder

  3.  Graph paper (1 cm squares)

  4. Ruler and Calculator (for HOME USE)

Science: (Mrs. LaFayette)

  1. One 100-page spiral notebook (preferrably with 3 holes punched) for science learning log [WILL BE COLLECTED FOR GRADING]

Social Studies: (Mrs. Macsuga)

  1. One pocket folder with prongs (for Current Events)

 ***Binders- if your child has difficulty managing multiple binders, please contact us. We can work out an alternative solution.

v      Please check your child’s supplies periodically and replenish them as needed. You may wish to keep this supply list to refer back to during the year for that purpose.

IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES: 

  • The grade 7 awards program will be held on Monday, June 9th at 1:30PM. Students who are receiving team awards will be given an invitation to take home to parents.
  • Tuesday, June 10th is the last day of school for students.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • The last day to turn in make-up work is May 28th. The last day to use positive points is May 30th.
  • Activities  listed each day are for all classes unless otherwise specified.

  • We reviewed the last part about simple machines and then students took the Quarter 4 Blue Diamond Assessment on Motion and Forces. Students who did not finish, will be given an opportunity to finish on Friday.
  • Students who have not returned textbooks or CDs were given obligation forms.

  • We discussed Ch 5 Section 2 "Six Simple Machines". Students also completed some activities to demonstrate these simple machines and show their relationships to each other as well as all other machines.

  • Today is the last day that students can turn in their positive points.
  • We collected data for the chapter 4 investigation. This lab investigates how a ramp affects the work, energy, and power needed to lift an object. We will finish this lab on Monday.

  • Ch 4 demonstrations and activities took place as time permitted. We will continue with these tomorrow. We investigated "How Much Work Does it Take?" (D118) and "How Does Mechanical Energy Change?" (D125).

    • Ch 2 quiz was returned and the answers reviewed.
    • Students wrote at definitions for the chapter 4 vocabulary and turned it in to the class box. Then they read Ch 5 sec.1 (D145-152)

    Homework: Bring your textbook or CD back to school. Positive points must be used by the end of the day on Friday.

    • Students who were absent on Friday took the Ch 2 Open Notetaker Quiz. Other students read Ch 5 Sec. 1 (D145-D152) and worked on the notetaker pages 119-120.
    • We finished going over ch 4 notetaker pages and prepared to do some activities tomorrow that are related to the chapter.

    Homework: Make-up work is due tomorrow. Positive points must be used by Friday, 5/30/08.

    EOG surveys and background information were completed today during 2nd period.

    • Graded current event #6 and Ch 2 investigation papers were returned.
    • We went over the chapter 2 pretest the students took prior to instruction on Newton's laws of motion. These are the questions that will be on the quiz Friday. It will be an open notetaker quiz.
    • We finished reviewing chapter 4 sec 2 on work and the transfer of energy.

    Homework: None; chapter two open notetaker quiz is Friday. Get your make-up work in as soon as possible.

    • We finished discussing chapter 2 section one about momentum.
    • Students read chapter 4 section one about work. Then we discussed this topic as students took notes using their notetaker booklets. Some classes continued on with chapter 4 section 2 about transfer of energy and its relationship to work. We will continue this topic on Monday.

    Homework: complete make-up work if you have any. Ch 2 Notetaker quiz will be on Friday, May 23, 2008.

    • Students were asked to turn in their Ch 2 Investigations papers if they did not finish them yesterday.
    • We discussed Ch 2. Sec 4 about momentum. Several demonstrations were conducted with the help of students to help clarify this topic.

    Homework: Complete missing assignments.

    • Students spent the period discussing the results of their model rocket experiments (Ch. 2 Investigation "Newton's Three Laws") and answering questions 1-5 under the "Conclude" section of the lab on page D63 of the textbook. Answers were to be written in complete sentences with the questions restated in the answers. When students completed their assignments, they turned them into the class box.
    • Some students read Ch 2 Sec. 4 (D64-D69) about momentum. We will be discussing this topic tomorrow.

    Homework: Finish the Ch. 2 Investigation questions if not done in class. The completed lab is due tomorrow.

    • Students turned in signed interims and missing assignments.
    • For warm-up students calculated the average distance their original rockets flew. Then they selected modifications to make and wrote hypotheses.
    • Student groups made their modifications and collected data. Tomorrow we will discuss our final results and write conclusions.

    • Students turned in signed interims and missing assignments.
    • We began the Chapter 2 Investigation Newton's Three Laws. This investigation asks the question: What aspects of a model rocket affect the distance it flies? Students constructed straw rockets and launchers today to gather background information.
    • Tomorrow we will discuss the information. Then student groups will be given the opportunity to modify their rockets and test their hypotheses.

    Homework: Get interims signed and complete missing assignments.

    • Interims were handed out to students. Missing assignments were highlighted and students were asked to turn any missing assignments they had.
    • Students turned in their completed current event #6.
    • For warm-up, students reviewed Newton's 3rd law and gave examples of it.
    • We  finished going over ch 2 sec. 3. Then, we reviewed all of Newton's laws using demonstrations. Monday we will begin the chapter 2 investigation into Newton's three laws.

    Homework: Get interim signed and make up missing assignments

    • For warm-up, students read Ch 2 Sec. 3 "Forces Act in Pairs" (D57-D61). This section addresses Newton's 3rd law.
    • We finished going over ch 2 sec. 2 about Newton's 2nd law and students took part in a couple of demonstrations. Then we began a discussion of ch 2 sec.3 and students completed notetaker pages 101-103. We will finish this tomorrow.

    Homework: Current event #6 is due tomorrow

    • Students completed a warm-up restating Newton's first and second laws of motion. Students were selected to demonstrate both laws and we clarified any misunderstandings related to them.
    • We also reviewed all of the questions on the Ch 1 quiz and students had an opportunity to ask questions to clarify any misunderstanding.
    • Tomorrow we will finish discussing ch 2 sec 2 and move on to ch 2 sec. 3.

    Homework: Current Event #6 is due Friday.

    • Students completed a warm-up related to chapter 2 of the motion and forces unit. Students who needed to take the Ch 1 quiz from Thursday worked on that.
    • After warm-up, we discussed ch. 2 sec.1 which introduces forces and explains Newton's First Law of Motion. Then we continued on to ch 2 sec. 2 about Newton's Second Law of Motion. Tomorrow, we will do some demonstrations to illustrate both of these laws.

    Homework: Current Event #6 is due Friday

    • Students take the Ch 2 pretest.
    • After finishing the Ch 2 pretest, students read textbook pages D41-48, and complete Notetaker pages 97-98. Then they read textbook pages D49-56 and complete Notetaker pages 99-100. We will discuss all of this information over the next few days.

    • Current Event Summary rubrics and directions are handed out to students. Current Event #6 is due on May 9th. Articles are available for students if they need one.
    • Students completed the Ch 1open-notetaker quiz.
    • After the quiz, students read chapter 2 section 1 (D41-D48). If they finish reading this assignment, they can work on their current event summaries or notetaker pages 97-98.

    Homework: Current Event Summary #6 is due Friday, May 9th.

    • Students turned in completed sheep eye dissection summaries or the alternative assignment.
    • For Warm-up, students completed Reviewing Key Concepts Questions 8-15 on page D35. Then we reviewed the answers and clarified any questions.
    • Then, we did the mini-lab on page D27, "Investigate Acceleration". Students completed the work in their learning logs.

    Homework: Open Notetaker quiz tomorrow. Current Event #6 is due May 9th

    Tuesday, April 29th

    • Students read Ch. 1 Sec. 3 (pg. D16-D23) for warm-up.
    • We reviewed the main ideas of Unit D sections 1.1 and 1.2.
    • Notetaker pages 95-96 were completed as we discussed the main idea of section 1.3 (acceleration).

    Homework: Eye Dissection Summary or alternative assignment is due tomorrow. There will be an open notetaker quiz on Ch 1 Thursday, 5/1/08

    • Students completed the mini-lab, "How are changes in position observed?" on page D12 of their textbooks. We used this activity to clarify understanding of what a reference point is and what relative motion is.
    • After the mini-lab, we reviewed all of the material we have talked about so far in sections 1.1 and 1.2 and then finished completing Notetaker page 94.
    • Students were told that there would be an open notetaker quiz for chapter one on Thursday, May 1st.

    Homework: Sheep Eye Summary or alternative assignment due Wednesday.

    Friday, April 25, 2008          Early Release Day: students out at Noon

    • Current Event #5 and make-up work was turned in to Mrs. L.
    • Directions for completing the Sheep Eye Dissection Essay were handed out and explained.
    • Students discussed CH 1 Sec. 2 "Speed measures how fast position changes" and reviewed or completed Notetaker pages 93-94 relating to the topic.

    Homework: Sheep Eye Dissection Essay or the alternative assignment is due on Wednesday, April 30th.

    • Students completed the Sheep Eye Dissection summary or the alternative assignment and turned it in.
    • When finished, students read Ch 1 Sec. 2 (D16-D23) and worked on Notetaker pages 93-94.

    Homework: Current Event #5 is due tomorrow. Tomorrow is the last day to turn in make-up work from the Human Body Unit.

    • A list of missing assignments from the Human Body unit was posted and students were told that all missing work is due by Friday. After that, it will not be accepted for credit.
    • Students completed the warm-up defining a reference point. Then we discussed this in relationship to Ch 1 Sec. 1 of the Motion and Forces unit. We went over the Notetaker pages 91-92 that students did yesterday.
    • Mrs. L. went over what to expect tomorrow when students take part in the sheep eye dissection. This is the culminating activity for our Human Body Unit.

    Homework: Current Event #5 is due by Friday, 4/25/08. Earn 10 extra points by turning it in before Friday. All missing assignments are due by Friday.

    • Students took the Quarter 3 Blue Diamond Science assessment.
    • After taking the assessment, students began the Motion and Forces Unit by reading Ch 1 Sec 1 (S9-D14) in their textbooks and working on completion of pages 91-92 in their notetaker booklets.
    • Human Body unit tests were returned along with other graded papers.

    Homework: Current Event #5 is due by Friday, 4/25/08

    • Compacting students continue to work on their projects, which are due on 4//18/08

    • Non-compacting students began chapter 4 of unit B. They read 4.1 (B101-B107) and and answered the review questions (B107) in complete sentences. Some students completed make-up work or took the quiz from yesterday.

    Homework: Ch 5 worksheet is due on Friday, 4/11/08. This was handed out last week and students have had time to work on it in class.

    • New emergency passes are handed out to all students.

    • Compacting students worked on their projects.

    • Noncompacting students turned in their digestive and excretory system concept maps if not turned in already.

    • Open note quiz on digestive, urinary, respiratory, and circulatory systems.

    • Digestive and Urinary System Graphic Organizers turned in after quiz.

    • Work on Ch 5 questions if necessary. Use pages B133-B153 in textbook.
