This academic school year I will be working with eighth grade students in the small group setting for Content Reading and Math; as well as one class period of Curriculum Assistance.
The Content Reading class will focus on reading comprehension skills for expository text as well as reading decoding skills. The reading lessons will include vocabulary activities as well as learning to use a variety of reading strategies to improve comprehension of material read. This is also a time to assist students with science related assignments and projects.
The math class will focus on problem solving as well as basic skills in whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and percents. Other areas that will be covered are geometry, algebra, and measurement concepts. The class will include remedial lessons as well as State Standard Course of Study lessons. Students are expected to come to class prepared to work and to complete their assignments daily. Homework will be assigned on a consistent basis. Please check your child's agenda on a daily basis. I check all student agendas daily in class.
We will be using the CATS theme this year for our class rules. Those rules are as follows:
C - Create a Safe Environment: Keep hands, feet, objects and negative comments to yourself.
A - Act Kind and Respectful: Be accepting of others' learning styles, ideas and feelings.
Let others learn and your teacher teach.
T - Take Responsibility: Do your own work in class and at home.
Be on time and bring needed materials to each class.
S - Succeed
A behavior modification / point system will be in place on a daily basis. Students will earn points and rewards for displaying CATS behaviors.
Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions or concerns that you may have concerning your child's academic progress.
If calling is more convenient, the school's phone number is 870-4050.
I look forward to a wonderful year for our 8th graders at West Millbrook Middle School.
Thank you,
Kris Page
