Orchestra Requirements
The following list of items will be required (all year)for each orchestra student to have for the 2009-2010 school year. The items are essential for each member to have at their disposal at all times in order to be prepared for daily orchestra activities, concerts, and trips.
The required items must be acquired by Friday, October 16. Each student will be asked to show me the items after which I will note in the grade book that they have met their requirements.
1] Instruments are to be in class every day, and in good playing condition.
2] A complete set of extra strings for their instrument [excluding cello and string bass]. [It is not necessary to replace the present strings unless needed or if so desired, the new strings will be used when replacement of an old string is necessary]
*All students renting school instruments must purchase their own sets of strings.
3] All students need a notebook to keep their music in (no folders, please!).
4] An adjustable shoulder rest for ALL violin and viola students
5] Adjustable floor strap for cello endpins, and "Rock Stop" for string basses
6] METHOD BOOK (for all beginning orchestra students) “Essential Elements for Stringed Instruments” - Book 1 Violin, Viola, Cello (whichever instrument your child is playing)
7] Identification tags for instruments including name, phone number, and school
8] A large cake of rosin.
9] Pencils are required Daily
10] A music stand for the students daily practice time is optional, but would be very helpful to your child [collapsible metal stands are available for about $15.00]. It is important to provide your student with a quiet place for their daily practice.
11] Concert attire is very important in the presentation and uniformity of a performing group. The orchestra students have Formal Attire: black dress slacks, white school dress code shirt, black dress shoes [NO tennis shoes, PLEASE!].
REMEMBER THESE ITEMS are DUE BY FRIDAY October 16, 2009, AND are A PART OF THE STUDENTS FIRST NINE WEEKS ORCHESTRA GRADE!!! This grade will also be a part of the grade all year, if all requirements are not met.
