African American History Research Project
Each fifth grader will research two (2) Americans who have made a significant contribution and write a biography. One of the two persons must be African American for “Black History Month.” The other may be a person of your choice. A biography is a written account of important events and significant experiences in another person’s life.
Student Directions:
• Select one or two persons to research from the list of noted personalities. (Please see worksheet p.44 for ideas of possible person to research. Students, however, are not limited to this list.)
• Gather information form books, magazines, and/or the computer. Research important facts, dates, places, events, and accomplishments in this person’s life. You may use the 5 W’s Q’s format: Who? What? When? Where? Why?
• Write a rough draft copy of your biography on sheets of paper working from your timeline.
• Draw or find pictures of the person.
• Conclude your paper by summarizing why this person(s) is important to you.
• Then rewrite or type your final (good) copy.
• Place your paper and pictures in a report folder, on a poster board, or make a Power Point presentation.
• Include your rough draft copy for extra credit (EC) points.
• Each researched personality will count for three (3) grades.
• Your researched biography report is due on Friday, February 26, 2010.
