Checking out early:
Our grade level has expressed concerns to Ms. Singleton about so many people being checked out early on a regular basis. This is a disruption of instruction at the end of the day, and often times it may mean that your child does not have what they need to go home that day. Please, please do not take your children out of school the last hour of the day, unless it is necessary. Other school districts have put a stop to this, but Ms. Singleton's response is for us to document who, have a conference with the parents, and then turn the names over to administration. Thank you!
STUDY ISLAND: Students have a schedule to follow at school and at home. They were given an extra schedule to keep at home, as well as one at school.
They will have one class period each week at school to work on Study Island. The rest should be done at home. I will be checking the progress this week. Please notify me if your child does not have daily access to a computer, so I can provide them extra time at school. The following students have been given 5 pts. extra credit to apply to the subject of their choice bc they are caught up:
Chris B., Victoria, Anika, Carly, Hannah, and Anija (great job!!!!)
Thank you to Laura Canino for doing folders this week, as well as purchasing two Wimpy Kid Dog Days books for the classroom!!! Book Fair Open.
Victoria has met her AR goal!!!!

Encourage them to read daily!
They should read a AR novel per week in fifth grade, or two books if they having a lower reading level.
ex. 18 point goal for the 9 weeks divide, that's 2 points per week. If they are not meeting their goal, they are not using their class time or home time wisely. New AR goals will be set today, and sent home to be signed. Their goals are achievable. My third grader had a 13 pt. goal the first nine weeks, so 15 points is not too much to ask of a fifth grader.
