Welcome to the Media Center!
News and NotesWe are now well into May at Rockwell Elementary School! This month in the Media Center we are focusing on using reference materials and the Big 6 Research Model. Our students are preparing for the EOGs and can smell summer just around the corner!
Our Media schedule this month is a bit different. We have a media lesson each week with some variations due to the testing and make-up testing days.
I will be teaching collaborative lessons with the Fifth Grades during the last week of this month.
Elementary Battle of the Books
Rockwell participated in this exciting opportunity to compete with other schools on March 17 at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. I am proud to say that we had a fine group of students on our Rockwell team:
Laura Agner (Mrs. Tina Harrill, 4th Grade)
Jake Boltz (Mrs. Cheryl Owen, 5th Grade)
Savannah Henley (Mrs. Amber Martin, 4th Grade)
Caitlin Jackson (Mrs. Pam Broome, 5th Grade)
Brandy Kegeris (Mrs. Cheryl Owen, 5th Grade)
Jonathan Matthews (Mrs. Pam Broome, 5th Grade)
Our students did not place in the top 3, but did well and had a wonderful experience. I am very proud of their hard work and exemplary team spirit. They are sure to continue to be avid readers as they mature.

North Carolina Children's Book Award 2008
Students voted during the week of March 10 - 14 for their favorite North Carolina Children's Book Award nominated book. We had been reading these in the Media Center for several months. The results are in! The favorite book at Rockwell was _Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?"_ All votes counted toward the North Carolina Children's Book Award at the state level. We will learn later about the book chosen at that level. I appreciate the participation of our students in this literacy opportunity.
