Rising 9th graders should be aware that a standard of dress has been set for all New Hanover County High Schools. The specifics are described on the NHCS.net webpage or that of each high school.
Lunches will be served by NHCS Child Nutrition Department, free to any child under the age of 18, M-Fri, from June 30 until August 6 at the following sites:
August 25 is the first day of school for 2009-2010 year. Open House will be held the week before from 5-7PM.
With the exception of year-round elementary schools (Codington and Eaton) and those schools who will be hosting summer camps and/or summer academic opportunities, NHCS Central Offices and schools will follow a four-day work week, beginning the week of June 15th and ending the week of August 10th. The schools and Central Offices will be open Monday - Thursday, during these designated summer weeks. The four-day work week has been approved by the Board of Education in an effort to help reduce operating costs during the summer vacation period. Free sports physicals for New Hanover County School students for the upcoming year will be offered in the following locations:
Boys: NHC Health Department, 2029 S. 17th St on June 18 at 7PM
Girls: NHC Health department, June 25 at 6:45PM

If you are 14 1/2 and interested in taking driver's education this summer, you can pick up an application in the office and return to the office at Ashley or Murray. Contact Mr. Long with any questions.
All parents are invited to attend School Improvement Team (SIT) meetings at Murray where school wide issues are discussed and decisions made. The next meeting will be held on August 4th at 9AM in the media center.
Camp Sunshine ($25) for children coping with death of a loved one will be held for rising 6th and 7th graders through Lower Cape Fear Hospice July 20-24 from 8:30-12:30PM at 1414 Physicians Drive. Applications must be recieved by May 15. Call 524-1872 or 796-7991 for more information.

The "Book Cafe" is open daily during lunch periods. Students can bring used books to trade, or purchase used books with 10 talon tickets. Middle School age book donations for the cause are also greatly appreciated!
Wilmington Health Access for Teens (WHAT) has opened an office in the arts hallway of Murray. WHAT offers mental health services for depression, anxiety, relationship problems, academic distress, ADHD and other behavior disorders. Psychological evaluation and psychiatric services are available. Most major insurance is accepted and ability to pay is not a criterion for receipt of services. PTA is collecting box tops, used computer printer cartridges, Tyson chicken labels and old cell phones in the front office.
Due to overcrowding on school buses, students may not ride home on a bus other than the one assigned, as directed by the transportation department.
