*PLEASE NOTE:
Thursday, Oct. 9th is our 2nd Early Release day. Please remember that students are dismissed 2 hours early and need to leave campus promptly because all staff will be involved in meetings and workshops. Buses will be operating on the “early release” schedule.

Sign up for the next Driver Education class will be October 14th. The class will run from Oct. 21st  - Nov. 5th after school from 3:45 – 6:45 pm. You must be 14 ½.

Students, if you are eligible to VOTE, you can register this week to vote for the Presidential Candidates in the cafeteria. Hurry, registration ends Oct. 9th!

The Winterville Kiwanis and the PTSA is sponsoring an “All you can eat Pancake Supper” on Friday, Oct. 17th (5 – 7 pm) in the SCHS cafeteria. Tickets are $5.00 and available at the front office and from Mrs. Robinson in room 317.(Please have correct change) Come enjoy pancakes and sausage before the Homecoming Game!

Attention Seniors! Now is the time to purchase your Sr. Ad for the yearbook. Information forms are available outside room 303.
Yearbook Staff is still looking for Sr. baby pictures, spring sports pictures, and prom pictures. Drop them off at room 303 ASAP!

Congratulations to the juniors and seniors who received notification of their eligibility for National Honor Society. Students are reminded to bring their completed activity forms to Mrs. Martin’s room 632 so that they can continue to be considered for membership.
Current National Honor Society seniors are reminded that dues/fees of $20 and information sheets are due to Mrs. Martin NOW…..please take care of this obligation this week.

College Application Week is November 10 – 14, 2008. If you are interested in receiving help applying for college, sign up for this week in the Student Services center.

Any senior planning to complete a college application to UNC-Chapel Hill must complete a Financial Aid CSS Profile. Stop by Student Services to pick up directions on how to do this.

Mrs. Hollingsworth currently has the following scholarship information:
-A Scholarship for any senior interested in the Architecture Program at Syracuse University.
-2 Scholarships available for those seniors majoring in Engineering in college.
-Centennial Scholarship Information has arrived.
-Burger King Scholarship has arrived.
-The Greenville Morning Rotary Scholarship information has arrived.
-The AXA Achievement Scholarship is in. To learn more about this scholarship, go to www.axa-achievement.com. You must demonstrate outstanding achievement in a non-academic activity or project.
-New Pitt County Scholarship:  Virginia Military Institute is looking for seniors from Pitt County who are interested in a 4 yr. degree while also participating in ROTC.
-The ECU Academic Merit Scholarship information is available. You must be in the top 5% of your class to apply.
-New Scholar ship: 2009 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest – up to $5000.00 scholarship money. For registration and to submit your essay, go to www.jfklibrary.org .
-NC National Teenager Scholarship Organization – only for young women willing to enter the NC National Teenager Pageant. (www.ncscnationalteen.com)
  -COCA-COLA SCHOLARSHIP (apply online)

Seniors & Juniors:  if you want to sign up for “Powder-puff”, come to Mrs. McAnally’s room, 417, or Mrs. Bridgers’ room, 420, before Oct. 8th.

Swim Team:  There will be a meeting for anyone interested in joining the swim team on Monday, Oct 13th after school in Mrs. Holt’s room, 118. If you are unable to attend the meeting you must go by and pick up papers. The meeting will be over by 4:00. Any questions see Mrs. Holt.

Congratulations to Ladies Tennis yesterday against W. Carteret. Elizabeth Campbell and Amanda Keating were the singles winners.

            
***REMINDER:  Each Pitt County High School student will have the opportunity to make up a total of 3 days (12 absences) of make-up days per semester.  Please be aware that Pitt County Schools will NOT offer the opportunity to make up days during summer school.
The “Attendance Make-up Sessions” for fall semester 2008 are:
November 4, 6, 13, 18, 20
December 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18
January 6
These will be held after school in Student Services from 3:40 until 6:40 pm.
