Just because End-of-Grade Tests are over, do not think we will not do classwork! However, we are winding down for the year.

PLANS FOR JUNE 2-10:

SEVENTH GRADE
We are reading the screenplay for "Brian's Song" out of our literature textbooks, and we are watching two different versions of the movie.
Optional extra credit book reports are due on Friday, June 6th.

EIGHTH GRADE
We are reading "When Zachary Beaver Came to Town" in class (with brief reading assignments as homework), we are discussing and doing some creative writing (such as country music songs), and we will watch the movie next week.
Any 8th grade student may turn in an extra credit book report by Thursday, June 5th.
Eighth grade graduation is Monday, June 9th at 6:00 in the old gym at school.

The following directions apply to both seventh and eighth grade book reports, and the book report dates are at the bottom of the page.
For full credit, you will need to follow all directions.
-    Your paper may be typed in 12-point font, or you may write it in black ink.
-    Your paper should include your name, date and assignment (Book Report 2).
-    If your book has an Accelerated Reader test, I will expect you to take it for points. If you make a score below 60, you will be required to meet with me to check for comprehension and discuss future book choices.
-    Your 5-paragraph essay should meet the following requirements:
Paragraph 1 should be your introductory paragraph and include the title of the book, the author’s name, the publication date, the number of pages and the genre of the book. You should then discuss the setting of the book, including the importance of time and place to the storyline.
Paragraph 2 should focus on the plot of the book, especially emphasizing the major conflicts (internal and external) and their resolutions. You should explain what information was given in the exposition and how the author led up to the climax of the story (as well as tell what the climax was). This paragraph will naturally be longer than your first paragraph, since you are writing a summary of the main events of the book.
Paragraph 3 will focus on the characters of your book. You should describe the main (round) characters (protagonist and antagonist) and the minor (flat) characters most important to the plot. You should also describe one dynamic character and explain how and why that character changed.
Paragraph 4 should tell the point of view of the book and why it is important to the story. In this paragraph, you should also tell at least one major theme, how it is shown in the plot and the characters, and how it could apply to our own lives.
Paragraph 5 is your conclusion, in which you should review the book that you read. In this paragraph, you should tell your opinion of the book and why you would or would not recommend it to your friends to read.

Final Mandatory Seventh Grade Book Reports are due on May 30, 2008, or earlier. Students may also do extra credit book reports until Friday, June 6, 2008.
Final Optional Eighth Grade Book Reports are due on  Thursday, June 5, 2008.
