Only a few more weeks to go! Exams are fast approaching, as is the end of the year!! DO NOT LOSE MOMENTUM NOW!!! We're almost there.
Please bookmark this page and check back often for updates and information. Also, please don't hesistate to contact me regarding your student and their progress!
Each child in my classes received standards, syllabus, guidelines, expectations and lab safety contracts.
Be reminded that we are on an A/B schedule, so that if you miss a day, you may really miss a lot, so come prepared every day and be ready to work and learn. We will cover a great deal in a short time, so being prepared is crucial!
I hope that parents and students alike will contact me regularly during the year regarding progress and remember that attitude is an important part of success. I actively encourage parent involvement to assist and support our students. Remember it is never too early (or too late) to be successful if the motivation is there!
Below is a list of the guidelines that I ask each student to follow for my classes. These are a few essential guidelines to the working of the class. I ask that each student respect these guidelines. Each student has received a copy of these to read, sign and return. The guidelines are:
1. Follow directions. Raise your hand to ask a question, respond to a question or move from your seat.
2. Come to class prepared to work. Be in your seat when the bell rings, with class materials ready. This includes your notebook, calculator and writing utensils. Class is from bell to bell and time lost off task cannot be tolerated. There will be no passes from class except in the case of extreme emergency. Time out of class will be made up in lunch detention or after school.
3. All absences will be recorded and missed work requested by the student upon return to class, in writing. It is the student's responsibility to request this work and be mindful of getting the handouts or other assignments. No more than 3 class days will be given to make up work after which it may become a zero and affect the overall grade.
4. No loud noises or disruptive behavior will be tolerated. No name calling, teasing or other inconsiderate behavior will be tolerated. Respectful behavior is the expectation.
5. No unauthorized food, beverages or electronic devices, hats or headgear. No booksacks. No cards.
Grades are based on a combination of portfolio/participation (10%), daily assignments/homework (30 %), tests, labs, quizzes and other projects( 60%). These, the midterm (10%) and the final (10%)constitute the total final grade.
Supporting students in their academic success is my primary goal. To this end, students have the opportunity to get tutoring and retest on major tests before and after school by appointment. They have one week from the date the test is returned to complete tutoring and their retakes. They may not retest without tutoring, or if an initial grade of at least 40% was not achieved. This opportunity is not available if students have been present and simply chosen not to do the work in the time allotted or finished at home as homework.
I have included a link to my email address. I encourage you to communicate with me by this means, as responses are generally done in a more timely fashion. However, if this option is not convenient, you may always call and leave a message at the school at the number listed above. These will be forwarded to my voice mail box. With your help and continued assistance, I'm sure we will have a very successful year.
Thank you for your time and cooperation.
