January 5-9
This week we will continue with our Business Projects. We will finish writing our advertisements and begin our friendly letters. A rubric for this project should be found in your child's English notebook.
Student Journals are due Friday, January 9. Students will be allowed to take journals home this week in order to "catch up" if they are behind. In order for the students to meet their quests, they should have 37 to 40 journals.
Estimated Due Date for Business Projects- Tuesday, January 13
Students need to bring $2.00 for Business Project folders and page protectors.

Monday, January 5
We will start this week off with a change of pace so to speak. Instead of our usual DOL and DPE, we will do Rit Ranges.
Lesson Objectives:
- TSW complete Journal Quests for Monday.
- TSW complete Rit Range 181-190.(writing/composing)
- TSW play the Language Game.
Assessments: completion of Journal Quests and the completion of rit range activity.
Activities:
Students will complete Journal Quests for Monday. Hopefully, through their writing the students will share some of their holiday activities with the class. The students will review and discuss 10 rit range questions. Finally, the students will be divided into teams and will play the Language Game. This game will consist of a big review based on what we've learned thus far in language. Winning teams will receive rewards.

Tuesday, January 6 and Wednesday, January 7
Lesson Objectives:
- TSW complete Journal Quests for Wednesday and Thursday.
- TSW complete Rit Range activity. (191-200) and (201-210)
- TSW complete a rough and final draft of a friendly letter.
Assessments: completion of Journal Quests, rit range activity, and friendly letter
Activities:
The students will complete Journal Quests for Tuesday and Wednesday and share with the class. The teacher will discuss the parts of a friendly letter and give the students an example. The students will then work individually to devise their own friendly letters. The assignment is for the students to pick a friend in the classroom and write them a letter about the new business that they have opened. The letters must be in the correct format and be approximately three paragraphs long. The teacher must approve the friendly letter rough draft. After teacher approval, the student may write or type the final copy.
Homework: Tuesday Night - students should complete rough drafts of friendly letters

Thursday, January 8 and Friday, January 9

- TSW complete Journal Quests for each day. Quest Due Friday!
- TSW complete Rit Range activity 211-220 and 221-230.
- TSW begin writing business letters.
Assessments: completion of Journal Quests and completion of Friendly Letters
Activities:
The students will complete Journal Quests and share. The students will complete and discuss rit range activity for each day. The teacher will discuss the components of a business letter and will illustrate a business letter of complaint. Each student will need to pretend to be an angry consumer that is unhappy with a company's service. They are to devise a business letter of complaint. The letter must be formatted correctly, have three body paragraphs, and have all relevant conponents that were discussed in class. Students will work on completing a rough draft and getting it approved by teacher. Then the students will be allowed to write or type the final draft.
All Rit Range activities will be checked and graded in class each day. On Friday these class activities will be turned in. They will be averaged together for one daily grade.
