Successfully Educating All Students
Happy New Year POD 2 Students and Parents!
Our school-wide theme this year takes us on a journey through the living S.E.A.S... Successfully Educating All Students. It is my hope that this school year students find their treasure in learning.
Feel free to check my SchoolNotes website often. Informative and imperative information will be continuously added and updated. Attached to the bottom of this webpage, you will find weekly lesson plans. Please note that plans are subject to change due to rate and impact of student learning. If you have any questions or concerns, you may email me at brantlee.jones@spartanburg2.k12.sc.us or call BSIS at 578-2884.
Also note over to the right is a calendar of school events with descriptions when needed. Other helpful information on this webpage includes links to websites useful for students and parents.
Parents, please review and sign your child's Agenda each evening. Daily homework and project assignments will be posted in the classroom which students are to have written in their Agenda. If you would like to have your child's teachers sign their Agenda each day, have your child bring his/her Agenda to each teacher before leaving class.
Please remember that most Fridays in English we have our weekly editing test. At the beginning of each week, students are given the daily paragraph editing sheet for the entire week. As students are getting settled and ready for our class, they are editing that particular day's paragraph. Students are given approximately five to seven minutes to complete that day's assignment. Then, we correct and discuss all mistakes as a class. During the week of January 5, students will be using their proofreading skills to edit a realistic fiction piece, A Change of Plans. On Friday, students will write to a prompt concerning this week's daily paragraph editing exercises. Please see this week's lesson plans below for the writing prompt. Students will not have a test this Friday. When we do have our editing tests, students should study their proofreading flashcards, cap flap booklet, previous proofreading/editing exercises, rules of punctuation handout in their English binder, various notes given during class, and other helpful pieces of information in their binders.
The sixth grade English department had hoped to begin a research unit during the second nine weeks. Changes have been made to our schedule to best suit the needs of our students. To better prepare students for the spring South Carolina PASS writing exam in March, our research unit has been postponed until after this date. Students need to focus on producing a variety of quality pieces of writing that meet our state standards.
Parents, please check your child's grades using TeacherEase. To access TeacherEase, you must have your login information including a username and password. For each assignment graded and entered into TeacherEase, I always provide helpful notes concerning that particular task. By logging into TeacherEase and reading my notes, many of your questions and concerns will be answered. If you are not currently using TeacherEase and would like to, please email me to register for this awesome school-home communication tool.
I've been so impressed with student committement since interims went home in late November. Students are back to working hard and showing great effort. Parents, please continue to stress the importance of daily study time, effort, and preparation for class to your child.
