Tues. 5th

Standards: Reading: 5-1.3, 5-1.9                           Language: 5-4.3                                       Social Studies: 5-3.6

Procedures:

 

1. Language/Writing FOCUS QUESTION:  How does a writer explain the elements of basic expository writing? Using flow map, teacher will model how to write an expository essay. Students will complete a time to write. Choose one – topics  1. When it Snow to … 2. The snowman … 3. I Have a Dream … 4. I am Optimistic…  5. I Achieved a Goal …

plain the type of insect and give reasons why it is your favorite.  Remember to include an interesting beginning, supporting details and a fabulous ending.  Support your answer with strong details.    Essay – due Friday – Test grade.

2. ReadingFOCUS QUESTION: How does interpreting the characteristics of poetry (stanza, rhyme scheme, repetition and refrain) and the devices of figurative language (including simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, and alliteration) improve one’s reading comprehension? Using selected poems, the teacher will review and demonstrate the essential elements of poetry and figurative language.

 

3. Social Studies:  FOCUS QUESTION: How did the actions of the US contribute in its rise as a world power – Panama Canal & WW I. Students will highlight and answers questions to complete study guide during Power Point presentation.

Wed.  6th –

Procedures:

1. Language/Writing FOCUS QUESTION:  How does a writer explain the elements of basic  writing? Choose one of these topics:  Topics: 1. When It Snows to …

2. The snowman … 3. I Have a Dream … 4. I am Optimistic … 5. I achieved a Goal …

Include an introduction, body, and conclusion.  Give supporting details for each main idea.  Support your topic with strong details(using vivid vocabulary) with a conclusion that recaps the topic using a clincher.

2.
