SchoolNotes.com - Linking Educators to the Community

A Wonderful Wates Welcome!

This is our classes' SchoolNotes Page

Welcome, to the Schoolnotes.com site for our first grade class. I hope this site will be helpful to you and your student.

What's New

This month we will be learning about communities, community workers, apples and our government. We are learning how to decode and sound out words as well as spell them correctly. In Math we are working on addition and beginning subtraction. Please ask your student what he/she is learning. Research shows that academic performance is enhanced if a parent or guardian is involved. Thank you for your help at home.
You guys ROCK!

Classroom Needs

Each month in this space I will list items that we could use in the classroom. Unfortunately, classroom teachers are provided with the money to fund all aspects of the learning
experience. I work hard to motivate and make learning FUN for all my students in a variety of ways. Your support in this effort is always GREATLY appreciated. From time to time if you can send in an item from the list that would be great!!!
*Treasure Box items —  small items such as items put found in birthday party favor bag
*Store items for our classroom store —  the rule here is any thing your student would like to purchase will work. Items from the dollar store or party favor items from the Party and Dollar
*stickers
*class snack
*Books for the class from the Scholastic book order - it is always exciting to have new books in the book baskets
*HP ink cartridges 94 and 95 - I go through these quickly in the classroom

Coming Soon:

The last week of September we will be studying Johnny Appleseed and apples. There are lots of items needed for this unit. If you would like to help by sending in an item, please let me now by sending a note and I will let you know what we need. This is always a fun and educational unit. I am excited about sharing it with your
student.

Wild About AR

We are working to earn Accelerated Reader points. Students may check out Accelerated Reader books from the library. Once they have read them, they may take a test on them. I am also reading AR books in the classroom and we are taking tests in the class as well. The library is open after school if you would like to take your student in to take a test. Once a student earns 10 points their picture is placed on the bulletin board outside the library. Remember all books that are read this year count toward the Double H Reading club. There was also a special announcement in class today for students who want to earn 50 AR points. Ask your student what the treat will be.

Book-It Reminder

Each month students will be responsible for completing 4 book reports and submitting them before the end of the month. Students who turn in 4 book reports at the end of the month will receive a coupon for a FREE personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. Students who complete 4 reports each month and turn them in will receive an award at the end of the year. Book reports should be completed by the student and turned in before the end of the month.

We are saving Box Tops!!!!

WE are collecting Campbell soup labels, Tyson labels, and empty ink cartridges for first grade! Please start saving these items as they help us earn money to buy supplies for our school. We will have 4 collection dates. Please cut along the dotted lines on the Box Tops and cut the bar code out on Campbell Soup labels. Thank you for helping support our school!

A few other reminders to help you keep in the beat.

* Remember to check your student's folder each evening.  This is my main source of communication with you.
* Should you need to send in ANY item, please send it in your child's folder (lunch money, book orders, homework envelopes, etc.).
* Please send all monies in an envelope with your student's name, my name, and what the money is for on the front. When sending money for different items please place it in separate envelopes.
* If the mode of transportation needs to change for your student, I MUST have a note. Please send a note stating how your student will be going home. I will not be allowed to change the mode of transportation without a note signed by a parent.
*Remember to listen to your student read each night and record it in the Reading Log.
*Students will be given a homework grade each 9 weeks. A point is deducted for time homework is not turned in.

Thank you for all you do to ensure that your student is prepared for class each day because learning happens everyday in first grade.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me via email or call the school at 442-6170.

Thanks for visiting our site, I hope that you found it helpful.
