Today we went to the computer lab to complete online Riverdeep/Destination Reading lessons. Students worked independently on any of the activites I had assigned. Today the myth project is due. Students needed to turn in their completed myth analysis and comparision sheets, typed script, and movie poster. Each day the project is late is a loss of 5 points. Students needed to complete a group evaluation today in class or for homework if necessary.

Today was the last day our class will be in the computer lab to work on the myth project. Any groups who do not finish today need to make plans with their group members to finish over the weekend, come at 8:00 on Monday morning, during REAL time, etc. Five points will be taken off each day it is late.

In their mythology journal, they wrote about the similarities and differences between the three myths. Last, students received the mythology project sheet and chose their groups. They have to get their project sheet initialed each day for that day's assigned task.

We reviewed the worksheet together.

To introduce a new unit about the Gulf Stream, we did an activity where we tried to identify the meaning of the words: meander, current, density, submersible, eddy, log, and gyre. Students saw the definitions on the board and had to match the vocabulary word to the definition. We discussed the results afterwards.

Today was Reading Game Day 1. Students played three Reading skills games today and will play the other 3 games tomorrow. Students rotated in groups of 3 or 4 to play games that test Reading skills such as: Inferencing, Reading for Detail, Context Clues, Comprehension, Literary terms, and Sentence structure. Students who were absent or not enrolled for the entire year are making up several short story quizzes today and tomorrow.

Students need to COMPLETE the worksheet, including writing the best definition that matches how the word was used in the story. ALL words should be defined. HW: Finish the worksheet. Due at the beginning of class tomorrow.

Today we finished using context clues to figure out the meaning of the vocabulary words from the story "Open House". Then we will look up the words in the dictionary and find the meaning of the words. HW: Start defining the words on the worksheet. We will finish the rest tomorrow.

Today we completed a vocabulary pre-activity where we wrote the meaning of each vocabulary word on the worksheet. Then we read "Open House" from the READ magazine, and used context clues to figure out the meaning of the same words. No HW.

Today we finished correcting the study guide. We discussed the 3 diagrams that I handed out-the aqueduct, bathhouse diagram, and underground pipe system. We then played Review Bingo together. HW: Study all your Taking a Bath in Rome worksheets, especially your study guide. BONUS: Get a parent/older sibling signature on your study guide to prove you studied, and you'll get a bonus point on your test.

We completed the "Vocabulary Riddles" worksheet today. We began drawing and labeling a diagram of either an aqueduct, bathhouse, or underground pipe system. Aqueduct must have the name of the mountains, include arches, a gradual slant, and water, and end in Rome. Bathhouse: all 6 steps must be described and labeled. Underground pipe system: Shows all 4 places where water goes. HW: Finish diagram. Test Friday, 10/3.
