SchoolNotes.com - Linking Educators to the Community
Wow! Where has the time gone? We are approaching October and the students are focusing in on their school work.  We will be doing:

8th Grade On Level Reading:  We are reading Tears of a Tiger, by Sharon Draper and the kids are reallying enjoying the story.  We start off with this novel because the story really engulfs the students.  It is about a group of friends who make a bad decision to drink after a high school basketball game and get into a car crash.  One of the basketball (Robbie Washington) is killed.  The book develops a tremdous bond of relationships between characters, sets tone and mood like no other.

The students have created a Journal that will be used as their performance assessment at the end of the book.  We add to the Journal weekly and it is an inclass assignment.

We will be having a comprehesion test on Thursday October 2nd.  The students will be receiving a study guide early next week.

Science - We are continuing to work on properties of matter and chemical and phyical changes.  We will be conducting White Before Your Eyes Lab next week to reinforce and see in real life how things connect to science.

Our unit science test will be on Friday October 3rd.  Please remind your students the importance of studying.

8th Period Reading -  We are about 1/2 way through Freak the Mighty.  The students are enjoying the development of friendships between to "odd" characters.  character development is such an important part of learning to pull apart the plot of the story.  The students have done a great job recognizing changes, both good and bad of the 2 main characters.  Their Journal will server as class work grades as well as, the performance assessment at the end of the book.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
