WEEK OF: Aug. 10-14, 2009

ALWAYS REFER TO YOUR TEXT AND ONLINE MATERIALS TO FIND THE CHAPTERS, LINKS AND ACTIVITIES FOR ALL TOPICS TO BE COVERED.

This week we will initially complete the introduction to the course.  You will receive the state and county scope and sequence for the course and we will briefly go over this.  You will also receive your text and CD.
We will take some time to discuss the research/experiment project that is obligatory for all students.  As part of this, we will perform a simple experiment that will help you determine what is expected in these projects.
Then we will cover lab safety, tools and procedures used in science classes.
There will be a Measurement Lab in which you will use various lab tools to make relatively precise measurements of mass, length, temperature and volume.
You will also be introduced to the premier tool of the biology lab - the microscope.
For preparation, you will be expected to read Ch. 1, plus the Investigation and Experimentation, Skillbuilder Handbook, and Reference Handbook sections of your text.
Don't forget that 2 article reviews will be due on Friday.  These must be on a biology-related topic and properly referenced.  They will contain a minimum of 3 paragraphs.
