Welcome to my School Notes page!  I have determined that my students and their parents deserve to be able to find out all about the world of Foreign languages any time of the day or night!

My class expectations were given to students at the beginning of the school year but it always helpful to have a thumbnail of what is expected in class:

Be on time.
Be present.
Be prepared.
Be a person of integrity.
Be helpful when needed.

Grading Policy:

Tests/Major Projects-  30%
Quizzes-               35%
Homework/Classwork     25%
Participation          10%

Make Up Policy

Learning a foreign language requires a great deal of self discipline and practice.  Erratic attendance makes learning a something new that much more difficult.  Make up work is permitted only from excused absences.  NO EXCUSED ABSENCE-NO MAKE UP WORK.
Make up work will be completed after school only.  Make up work is encouraged to take place very quickly--preferably within 2 days of returning... no more than 5.  If an appointment is made to make up work and the student does not show and no message has been received, the work in question receives a 0.  Work not made up within prescribed time receives a 0.

Homework policy- NO LATE HOMEWORK ACCEPTED UNLESS ACCOMPANIED BY EXCUSED ABSENCE!!!
French or Spanish is a lot like math.  You need to practice every day to really become proficient.  There is homework every day; if not a written assignment, each student is expected to study what we have covered in class that day.  That is the only way to really
"get it."  You need to practice until it is natural, automatic and you don't even need to think about it.

All assigned homework is to be completed and turned in when due.  Only those students who were absent the day the assignment was made( AND the absence is excused )are excused to turn it in the day after they return.  No late homework is accepted. Students on pre-arranged field trips are encouraged to turn in work the day of the trip anyway; a field trip is not intended to be an additional day to get the assigned work completed.

I invite you to check my school notes pages regularly as you will find important information concerning what is going on in my classes.

Note: Many times precise dates are not included in the schedule for the week as these are subject to change; however, students always have at LEAST 24 hours notice ( usually MUCH longer) of quizzes and/or tests for adequate preparation.  Review in class is common as well and there are many appropriate websites for further help.

Please take advantage of our IParent program that allows you to view your child's progress in ALL his classes, attendance and so forth any time of the day or night.  All you need is a computer and internet access.  See Ms Angela Dallis in the Media Center for your code.  It is a great way to check up on your child's progress on a regular basis.  It also cuts down on the time it would take to get an update from each individual teacher and once you view IParent, you can contact each teacher with more detailed questions and so forth.  It's great!!!

Spanish II- We are working hard on the unit of " How to write a narrative in Spanish" by working on how to form and use the preterite and the imperfect in Spanish.  There is a HUGE test over this topic scheduled for Friday, March 20.  The " Cheat sheet" that we discussed in class on March 16 will need  to be turned in on that day in order to receive credit for the work... the sheet will be worth bonus points on the test.  We will then be working on our personal portfolios ( El Cuento de Mi Vida)- The Story of My Life illustrating the mastery of the two verb forms and their usage in narrative.  The personal portfolio is due Wed. April 1 ( No, it is not an April Fools' joke!  :))

French I- Our test over unit 7 is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18.  We will then begin our project in which we recreate an authentic French fashion show with all the required elements... in French, of course!
The fashion show is scheduled for April 1 here at HHS.  More information to come!

French II-  We are still fine-tuning our grammar in French.  There is a quiz over the usage of direct and indirect objects in the same sentence scheduled for March 17.  The culminating activity is the creation and posting of a lengthy "Lost and Found" in which each student must describe the item lost and reward if found.  That will be completed by the end of the week of March 23.

NOTE, NOTE!  All Mrs. Weimar's students who attend a performance of Steel Magnolias, have her sign their program and then turn in the signed program will be awarded 10 bonus points on a test or project that is currently being worked on in class.

COME LAUGH AND CRY WITH US AS THE HHS FACULTY PRESENTS "STEEL MAGNOLIAS" on March 19, 20, 21 here at HHS-  tickets-  $7 advance/$10 at door... scholarship fundraiser...

NOTE:  Tutoring is available through the  Spanish Honor Societies for  Spanish students.  All it costs is your time.  See Mrs. Rivera if you are a Spanish student and me ( Mrs. Weimar) if you are a French student.  Rule of thumb--if you are having a tough time maintaining a 75 average --chances are you need a tutor. Spanish II students are encouraged to contact Mrs. Weimar who will in turn contact Mrs. Rivera to secure a tutor for Spanish to work with 9th graders on Mondays and Wednesdays, like all other tutoring for ninth graders.
