November 2-6, 2009

Reading and Language Arts:  We will be reading the story "Sam's Song". Our spelling words are chin, when, wink, chick, sink, think, together, now, eat, too.
We will working with words with ch, wh, and nk sounds. We will discuss story elements. We will review sequencing and main idea. We will compare and contrast story elements in different stories we have read. We are always working of fluency so your child should be reading everything (little books, homework assignments) themselves. Everything we are doing builds upon the previous week's skills, and the one before that and so on.  So READ, READ, READ!

Grammar:  We will work on identifying past tense  verbs. We will work on writing and punctuating sentences with periods, question marks, and exclamation points. We will review antonyms and work on synonyms. We will introduce contractions.  We will be writing in journals throughout the year.

Math:  We will continue working on tens/ones place value, single digit addition/addition/subtraction facts to 10, and money math problems.

In Science and Social Studies, we will study the basic needs of plants/animals, and historical figures: Thomas Jefferson, Lewis and Clark, and Harriet Tubman.

Read the little books sent home with your child. Help your child with writing their sentences. Remember to begin with a capital letter and end with the correct ending punctuation.
Work on the “Sam's Song” Homework comprehension assignments during the week.

Reminders:
1. Please look at your child's behavior calendar daily and initial it. Check your child's FISH book daily.
2. Homework is a must! Please help your child with directions and understanding it. Please help your child write his/her sentences.  Remember to begin with a capital letter and end with the correct punctuation. Writing these sentences at home helps them a lot. Understanding the complete sentence is difficult for some children.
3. Read with your child daily at home.  If I send home any little paper books during the week, have your child read them to you.
4. Remember the Fall Festival on Friday.  If you have not signed up to work, we could use your help.

Thanks for your help with our Fall Celebration on Friday.  The children enjoyed it.
