8th Grade Reading
Week 5:  9/8/08 – 9/12/08

Reading Across the Curriculum

Unit 1:  Narrative Texts

Georgia Performance Standard:  ELA8R1
The student demonstrates comprehension and shows evidence of a warranted and responsible explanation of a variety of literary and informational texts.

Georgia Performance Standard:  ELA8RC3
The student acquires new vocabulary in each content area and uses it correctly.

Objectives:
Review comprehension strategies that help students understand what they read.
Review decoding strategies that help students get through ‘big’ words.
Review time management/study skills, organization skills, and test-taking strategies.

Monday
Daily Warm-up (Word Analogies):  Students will complete a word analogy.
Aim:  MAP Test  
Lesson Steps:  Administer the MAP test to students.  Students will read their AR books.  
Homework:  Students will study their literary terms for Vocabulary Test 2.  Students will finish reading their AR books.
Materials:  MAP Test Book

Tuesday
Daily Warm-up (Word Analogies):  Students will complete a word analogy.
Aim:  Vocabulary    
Lesson Steps:  Administer Vocabulary Test 2 to students.  Students will go to the computer lab to take their weekly AR tests.  After testing, students will check-out new AR books.    
Homework:  Students will read their AR books.
Materials:  Elements of Literature Book

Wednesday
Daily Warm-up (Word Analogies):  Students will complete a word analogy.
Aim:  Understanding Sequence  
Lesson Steps:  Through guided instruction, students will learn the key steps involved in understanding sequence of events in reading passages from section 2 of their CRCT practice book.  
Homework:  Students will read their AR books.
Materials:  Ladders to Success CRCT Practice Book

Thursday
Daily Warm-up (Word Analogies):  Students will complete a word analogy.
Aim:  Understanding Sequence  
Lesson Steps:  Through guided instruction, students will learn the key steps involved in understanding sequence of events in reading passages from section 2 of their CRCT practice book.  
Homework:  Students will read their AR books.
Materials:  Ladders to Success CRCT Practice Book

Friday
