Any student wishing to learn a band instrument may start in the sixth, seventh or eighth grade. It is recommended however, that they start in the sixth grade. PARENTS MUST BE WILLING TO RENT OR BUY A BAND INSTRUMENT IN ORDER FOR THEIR CHILD TO PARTICIPATE IN BAND. Instruments that are taught are: flute,clarinet,saxophone,trumpet,French horn,trombone, and percussion. Baritone, bass clarinet and tuba are taught at the seventh and eighth grade level. PRACTICE RECORDS ARE REQUIRED OF STUDENTS ON A WEEKLY BASIS.. Students should practice at least 30 minutes per night, six nights per week, and should turn in their practice log every Monday. Each practice record should be signed by a parent. PRACTICE RECORDS COUNT 10% OF THE STUDENT'S GRADE EVERY NINE WEEKS.
All band students,6th, 7th and 8th grade, will perform a Holiday concert and a Spring concert. Most 7th and 8th grade students will also perform at the District III Performance Evaluations in March.
All 7th and 8th grade band students are eligible to try out for All-State Band and/or District Honor Band.
