5/6:Please study for your vocab test on Fri.5/8. Encourage your children to stay focused in class. We still have 3 weeks of school! We are reading a novel in class and it is very important for them to keep up so that they can get the most out of the novel. They are responible to complete assignments in the novel on time. Please check their agenda for daily work.
5/4:This week we will continue with our novel. Check your child's agenda for daily assignments. We will have Career Day on Friday 5/8 for the 8th Graders. Our vocab words for the week will come from our novel.
4/29:We will have our SAT words vocab test tommorow because of our Pride Day Carnival on Fri. Study for the test and if you haven't paid for your wristband for the carnival, you must purchase it by tomorrow!
4/27:We are beginning a new schedule today. We will have back to back exploratry classes for the rest of the year. We are beginning a novel in 2nd, 4th, 5th and 7th period: Jacob Have I Loved. We will be reading the novel, The Summer of My German Soldier, in my 3rd period class. Check your student's agenda for daily activities. This week is Midland Pride Week which will conclude with an amazing carnival on Fri. 5/1. Make sure your child buys a wristband if they have not already done so.
4/21:We are in our second week of CRCT testing. All is going well! Students will bring midterm progress reports home tomorrow, 4/22. Please sign and return ASAP. After testing, we will begin working on "Correcting Common Errors in English." Check your child's agenda for details of daily lessons. Since progresss reports come home tomorrow, I will not send email reports on Fri. 4/25.
4/1:Students will have the opportunity to do CRCT practice over Spring Break to help them prepare for CTCT testing which will begin Tuesday, 4/14. Students can go to www.georgiaoas.org and complete a Language Arts test and email the test to Mrs. Lewis at Mmslewis@gmail.com. To log on to the website students should use their 'AR' username and password. All students who complete this test will recieve a reward on Monday, 4/13 when school resumes. Please encourage your students to practice over the break.
3/31:We will be doing CRCT Practice this week. We will not have a vocab test this week, but the students will have a test on multimeanings, prefixes, suffixes and word origins which we have been going over this week.
CRCT testing begins Tues.4/14. Please encouage your child to do computer CRCT Practice test during "Spring Break".
3/21:This week we will study lesson 30 in our vocab. books on pg. 119-122 in your vocab books. Study for your vocab. that we will take on Friday, 3/27. On Tuesday 3/24 will have a test on phrases.Specifically, prepositional, gerund, infinitive, and appositive phrases. We will review for the test on Monday. After completing the unit on phrases we will begin discussing case. Please check your child's agenda for daily assignments.
3/18:Students will bring home their 3rd nine weeks report cards today. Please sign the slip and send back tomorrow. Study for your Lesson 29 vocab test on Friday. I will not send email reports on Friday 3/20 because you are receiving report cards today 3/18.
3/16:This week we will study lesson 29 in vocab. on page 115-118. Our vocab. test will be on Friday 3/20. In grammar this week we are reviewing for the upcoming CRCT. We will look at phrases, specifically the participle, infinitive, and gerund phrase. Please check your child's agenda for daily assignments.
3/10:This week we will study lesson 28 in vocab. on pg. 111-114. There will be no school for students on Friday, and as a result of this we will take the vocab test on Thursday 3/12. This week we will begin reviewing grammar for the upcoming CRCT. The nine weeks will end on 3/13 and all missing assignments must be made up by the end of the day on Wednesday 3/11. Check you child's agenda for daily assignments.
3/2: This week we will study lesson 27 on pg. 107-110 in vocab. We will finish the activities on the poem, "The Cremation of Sam McGee" that we started last week. We will finish up the poetry unity by reading a poem by Langston Hughes and Dr. King's famous "I Have A Dream" speech. On Friday 3/6, we will have a vocab. test as well as a journal check. Check you child's agenda for daily assignments.
2/24:We will do Lesson 26 pg. 103-106 in vocab. We will work on different types of poetry this week including, haiku and onomatopoeia. We will be reading "The Cremation of Sam McGee" and discussing poetry terms. There will be a vocab. test on Friday 2/27. Please check your child's agenda book for daily lessons.
2/17:We will do Lesson pg.99-102 in vocab. We will also introduce poetry this week. MAP testing will be this week as well. Check your child's agenda for daily lessons. Our first track meet is Friday 2/20.

8/11/08:Welcome back to another exciting school year. We are off to a great start. Your child received an Agenda book today and has begun putting in the daily lessons that we are working on in class. Please check your child's agenda daily to see the AIM, Lesson Steps and homework for each subject. This will help your child to have a successful year. You will receive a packet of info tonight that will need to be completed and returned to school asap. Tomorrow I will send home a letter about Language Arts and things the students will need for this year. Locker fees are $10.00 and should be paid asap.
