WEEK OF August 10/13/2008 * REPORT CARDS GO HOME ON WEDNESDAY 10/15/08*COGAT TESTING STARTS ON TUESDAY FOR ALL 6TH GRADE. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR STUDENT IS ON TIME FOR SCHOOL EVERYDAY*

Welcome to an exciting school year at Double Churches Middle School.  My name is Mrs. Leatherwood and I am your child's sixth grade math teacher.  I would like to welcome you into my classroom, and assure you that your child will have an exciting learning experience.  I feel that a close relationship between teacher and parent is extremely important; therefore I am taking this opportunity to tell you a little about my classroom.

Classroom Rules
In order for every child to learn in his or her maximum potential, I will create a classroom environment in which every child feels emotionally and physically safe.
THE RULES FOR MY CLASSROOM ARE AS FOLLOWS:

1) Raise your hand before answering a question
2) Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself
3) Speak politely, without yelling, screaming, swearing or teasing
4) Ask for permission before leaving the room
5) Allow Mrs. Leatherwood to teach, interrupting is not acceptable
6) Ask and get permission to use other student's and teacher's belongings
7) You may help another student, but everyone must do their own work
8) Keep quiet in the hallways at all times

Classwork:
We will Finish chapter 2 in the math textbook. The students were issued a math workbook last Friday that they are to bring to class EVERY DAY! Our warm ups, classwork, and sometimes homework will come out of these books. This week we will solve addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division equations. The students will be tested on FRIDAY over their knowledge of the subject.

Homework:
Purpose of Homework
Homework will be an important extension of the activities and lessons I have taught in the classroom.   It will consist of meaningful homework assignments that reinforce what your child has learned.  It will also provide for practice of skills and application of principles that students  have learned and reviewed in the classroom.

I give homework EVERY Tuesday night and it is ALWAYS due on Thursday at the Beginning of class. If the student does not turn in their homework assignment on Thursday then they will not be aloud to participate in "Fun Friday".

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT THIS WEEK 10/15/08

Review over Equations.

*IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMEMT*

We are in the process of upgrading our Accelerated Math and Reading program to AR and AM Enterprise so that our students will have access to more than 100,000 quizzes! During the conversion process, AR and AM will be unavailable. Hopefully, the program will be up and running in a timely manner. Children may keep a log of AR books in order to take quizzes as soon as AR Enterprise is accessible. Transitions are challenging, but this inconvenience will yield great benefits for our students

Extra Credit:
No Extra Credit at this time.

Fun Friday:
Every other Friday I allow the students to pick a fun and educational activity to do on Friday if they have completed all of their work all week. Also they have to have kept a good dicipline record all week. If they have not then they will either make up the work that they have not completed or either copy a dicipline paragraph several times.

Character Word of the Month: Punctuality- being prompt and on time time to class and school!

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me via email!

Have a GREAT week and WAR EAGLE!

Beth Leatherwood
