Mrs. Kinder’s Gifted Resource Class Grade 7
MODEL HOUSE PROJECT DUE ON OCTOBER 1, 2008
To complete our unit “How Much Does It Cost?”, each student will construct a model house of his own design following the guidelines below:
• The house may be no larger than 2ft. x 2ft. x 2ft. in total size. This includes any base it may be placed on.
• The roof must be removable in order to see the inside floor plan.
• The minimum required elements include a kitchen, living room, dining room, bedroom, and bath.
• The house may be made of easily obtained objects like corrugated box material, wrapping paper, construction paper, scraps of fabric, wallpaper, pictures from magazines, etc. A box in itself is not acceptable; you must alter it in size, shape or some other manner to make it you own design. Some other materials students have used in the past include foam board, handmade and purchased miniature furniture, wood, sheet metal, and shingles. Lincoln Logs, wooden blocks, Lego’s, or other toy materials are not permitted for the house itself.
• You are limited only by your imagination. The house is to be your dream house and may be any shape, number of storeys and contain whatever you’d like to put in it as long as it meets the first three requirements.
• The basic one-storey house that meets the first three criteria and is turned in on time will receive a C.
• An A or B grade is made by the personal creativity expressed in the design of the house and its decoration:
1. Windows are covered and decorated.
2. Floor coverings are present.
3. Appropriate furniture is in place.
4. Wall coverings and decorations are present.
5. The exterior has siding/roofing materials.
6. The floor plan is more than the required
elements.
7. Personal creativity is present.
8. The project is neat.
9. It is evident that the student did the work.
