Welcome to 6th grade, welcome to team 602, welcome to Arnold, and welcome to my classroom!
This is my third year teaching.  This is also my third year teaching 6th grade Math here at Arnold Magnet Academy.
This year we will be adding a daily Math Skills class for all of our students.  The skills class will consist of Accelerated Math, journal entries, math centers, and homework time.  More information to come.

          Supplies (needed each day!)
1. Presharpened pencils (several with erasers), absolutely no pens!  (If pen is used I will not accept assignment.)
2. Loose leaf Notebook paper
3. Organized Math Notebook
4. Hand held pencil sharpener
5. Student Handbook (this is one method we will use to communicate with parents)
6. AR book (for those who finish assignments early)

We will be working from the Georgia Performance Standards, which can be found, at the following website: www.georgiastandards.org

The math notebook is required to help students keep up with their assignments; we will organize this together in class.  The students know where to find their math assignments and where to write down their assignments(agenda book/AMA hand book).  There is no excuse for students to not hand in assignments.

When a student is absent from class, it is the student’s responsibility to find out what the missed assignment/s were.  The assignments are posted at the student center along with their missed assignments, they just have refer to the student center.  If the assignments are not turned in by the third day after the student returns to class, those grades will be recorded as zeroes.  There will be no makeup assignments!

For those students who simply fail to hand in assignments when due their grade will suffer.  For students who have not been absent, they have three days to hand in assignments, after the third day I will no longer accept the assignment and it will become recorded as a zero.  These zeroes drastically lower student’s math grades.
One day late: I will deduct 10% off assignment grade
Two days late: I will deduct 20% off assignment grade
Three days late: I will deduct 30% off assignment grade.
After the third day the assignment becomes a zero.

Again here are my expectations of students in the classroom.

    1. Come to class prepared to work each day.
    2. Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak.
    3. Begin work immediately (warm up) and remain on task.
    4. Complete all assignments as instructed.
    5. Keep your hands, feet, objects and negative comments to yourself. If I see a student try to physically harm another I will immediately send them up to the office.  If it is horseplay, the student will still get into trouble.  Horseplay can lead to something more serious.  Horseplay does not belong in the classroom!
    6. Clean up your area before leaving; no trash in or around desks.
    7. No gum, candy, or food unless I give it out.
    8. Do not talk when I am talking.
    9. Follow all Arnold Magnet Academy and MCSD Rules.

Consequences for failing to follow expectations:

        1. 1st offense- Verbal warning will be given, unless it is a serious offense.
        2. 2nd offense- Teacher counsel
    3. 3rd offense- Note to parents in agenda book/phone call home.
        4. Timed out .

I will also give silent lunch or team detention to those students who are continually off task

Please note: severe misconduct may result in immediate office referral.

Sincerely,
Darla J. Ledwick
Team 602 Math
