4/30/09:
Traditional: Students took a quiz on Unit #6 Symmetry. Once finished, students worked on their Accelerated Math Assignments. No homework for today.
Skills: Students worked on Accelerated Math.
Magnet: Students worked on their Accelerated Math Assignments for the first half of class. Students also started a new unit, Unit #8 Solid Figures. Students worked in small groups on numerous activities that assisted them in understanding 3d figures. No homework for today.
Skills: Students worked on Accelerated Math.
4/28/09
Traditional: Students practiced transformations in class today; they are getting ready for the upcoming symmetry quiz, which has been moved to Thursday. We will be reviewing tomorrow. No homework today.
Skills (3rd Pd): Students worked on thier Accelerated Math Assignments in class. No homework.
Magnet: Students reviewed for their symmetry quiz tomorrow with a study guide. Students should study their study guide (today's assignment) and their Unit #6 notes for the upcoming quiz.
Skills: Students worked on their Accelerated Math Assignments in class. No homework.
Math Skills (7th Pd): Students worked on a classwork assignment, Alien Symmetry (Reflection) and reviewed creating a circle graph with given data. No homework today; students will finish thier classwork in class tomorrow.
4/27/09
Traditional: Students took more notes on transformations and finished up notes on shapes in math today. Students also practiced using parchment paper to find transformation of triangles. Students will have an upcoming quiz on Unit #6 Symmetry. This quiz will be based on Unit #6 notes and the transformation practice that we have been doing for the last couple of class periods. No homework today.
Magnet: Students finished up their symmetrical t-shirt designs in class(parnters). Students presented their t-shirt designs to the class and turned in their poster/t-shirt and rubric for a grade. Students will be having a Unit #6 Symmetry Quiz on Wednesday. Please look over your notes and be familiar with the types of transformations, how to solve the transformations with a geo reflector and parchment paper, know how many degrees of rotation there are in a certain shapre when it is rotated and sits back on top of itself (decagon- 36 degrees of rotation)and know your geometric shapes (octagon, decagon, hexagon, pentagon, regular and non regular shapes, plane figures and polygons.
Math Skills (7th Period): Students worked on their Accelerated Math objectives in class. No homework.
4/23/09
* Students were given their math and math skills progress reports today.
Traditional: Warm Up #93. Students practiced reflectional symmetry with the geo reflectors (miras)today (this was taken up for a classwork grade). No homework today.
Skills (3rd Pd): Students worked on Alien Reflection Symmetry and practiced creating circle graphs(this was taken up for a classwork grade for Skills).
Magnet (4th Pd): Warm up #93. Students pracitced transformations (Symmetry) in class with parchment paper activities (this was taken up for a classwork grade). No homework.
Skills (5th pd): Students read a symmetry article and answered questions based on their reading (this was taken up for a classwork grade). Students also worked on their Accelerated Math assignments.
Math Skills (7th Pd): Students worked on their Accelerated Math Assignments. No homework
Supplies (needed each day!)
1. Presharpened pencils (several with erasers), absolutely no pens! (If pen is used I will not accept assignment.)
2. Loose leaf Notebook paper
3. Organized Math Notebook
4. Hand held pencil sharpener
5. Student Handbook (this is one method we will use to communicate with parents)
6. AR book (for those who finish assignments early)
We will be working from the Georgia Performance Standards, which can be found, at the following website: www.georgiastandards.org
The math notebook is required to help students keep up with their assignments; we will organize this together in class. The students know where to find their math assignments and where to write down their assignments(agenda book/AMA hand book). There is no excuse for students to not hand in assignments.
When a student is absent from class, it is the student’s responsibility to find out what the missed assignment/s were. The assignments are posted at the student center along with their missed assignments, they just have refer to the student center. If the assignments are not turned in by the third day after the student returns to class, those grades will be recorded as zeroes. There will be no makeup assignments!
For those students who simply fail to hand in assignments when due their grade will suffer. For students who have not been absent, they have three days to hand in assignments, after the third day I will no longer accept the assignment and it will become recorded as a zero. These zeroes drastically lower student’s math grades.
One day late: I will deduct 10% off assignment grade
Two days late: I will deduct 20% off assignment grade
Three days late: I will deduct 30% off assignment grade.
After the third day the assignment becomes a zero.
Again here are my expectations of students in the classroom.
1. Come to class prepared to work each day.
2. Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak.
3. Begin work immediately (warm up) and remain on task.
4. Complete all assignments as instructed.
5. Keep your hands, feet, objects and negative comments to yourself. If I see a student try to physically harm another I will immediately send them up to the office. If it is horseplay, the student will still get into trouble. Horseplay can lead to something more serious. Horseplay does not belong in the classroom!
6. Clean up your area before leaving; no trash in or around desks.
7. No gum, candy, or food unless I give it out.
8. Do not talk when I am talking.
9. Follow all Arnold Magnet Academy and MCSD Rules.
Consequences for failing to follow expectations:
1. 1st offense- Verbal warning will be given, unless it is a serious offense.
2. 2nd offense- Teacher counsel
3. 3rd offense- Note to parents in agenda book/phone call home.
4. Timed out .
I will also give silent lunch or team detention to those students who are continually off task
Please note: severe misconduct may result in immediate office referral.
Sincerely,
Darla J. Ledwick
