August 6, Thursday:  no homework

August 7, Friday:  all students selected a word from the Word of the Day list they received today; students were offered construction paper and other supplies during class to use over the weekend (others opted to use materials they had at home); students will create a picture that represents the word; word, definition and name should appear on the front.

We will be going to the library on Monday and Thursday to work on our Passion Project brochures.  Bring all of the materials you have been working with this week and last week.

Monday, Aug. 31:
HW:  1.  Continue working on Passion Project brochure (start presenting on Friday).

Tuesday, Sept. 1:
HW:  1.  Smart Start quiz Friday (everyone was given a copy previouly; if someone lost it or was absent, another copy was given to them in class today --dates:  Aug. 10- Sept. 4)
2.  Journals due Friday - Aug. 10 - Sept. 4 ---graded on completing half a page each school day --Ms. Braddock counseled students that have not been doing their journals as assigned.
3.  Check Smart Starts for the correct dates and journals for completion
4.  We will be going to the library on Wed. and Thur. to put the finishing touches on our Passion Projects brochures.  Start presenting on Friday --students assigned line up of presentations in class today.  Students that have been out sick will be put at the end of the list so they will have more time to make up the assignments.

Wed., Sept.2:
HW:  1.  finish/print brochure by Friday---MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FOLLOWED THE RUBRIC!!!!

     4.  Begin Passion Project presentation (students were told yesterday the sequence in which they would present --it will probably take 2-3 days to finish --plan accordingly).

****Due to unforseen circumstances, I will not be at school Thursday and Extended Thursday will not be held tomorrow.  As such, I am allowing students to turn in the work that they otherwise would have been expected to do during Extended Thursday on Friday instead. All of Extended Thursdays will continue as normal unless notified otherwise.  All students were notified of the change during 6th period, Wednesday, September 9.*****

WOW!!! I am SO please with the genre test grades!  The majority of you made a 100 on the test!  Super!  Have a fantastic weekend:)

Tuesday, Sept. 22:
HW:  1.  Start working on the three-frame filmstrip worksheet -- follow the directions given in class today and use WOD list #2 given out in class today.
2.  Refer to Ms. Braddock's Procedures on how to head a paper properly.

Wed., Sept. 23:

HW:  1. Read AR
     2.  Work on the WOD filmstrip activity -- DUE Friday (some students have turned in their work early and it looks great).  Remember to get WOD list signed and start studying (pretest and test dates on the top of the list).

Thursday, Sept. 24:
HW:  1.  WOD filmstrip due Friday
     2.  All classes EXCEPT 5th period are to complete question 1 through 6 and a through c on page 478 of their literature textbook

Friday, Sept. 25:
HW:  1.  Students that did not finish their classwork (lit. textbook:  p. 479, read top of page and then complete "Vocabulary:  How to Own a Word"; p. 495, read the top of the page and complete "Vocabulary:  How to Own a Word"
2.  Many students did not have their homework from Thursday night; do it over the weekend.
3.  I am very pleased with the WOD filmstrip activity turned in today.  Most of you took a lot of time and effort and it shows!! Good job!

Monday, Sept. 28:
HW:  1.  finish classwork (p. 223, 1-6 and a-d, answers only).

Tuesday, Sept. 29:
HW:  1. Study the WOD list
     2.  Read AR book

Wed., Sept. 30:
HW:  1. study short story notes taken in class today; (5th received a copy of the notes)
2.  Read AR books - all students had a conference with me today and we talked about their word count --- it should be 250,000 for the first nine weeks

Thur., Oct. 1:
HW:  1.  Elements of  a Short Story - study notes and be able to recognize an example of each term; reread pages 212 and 213
2.  Read AR (zero - 1 hour)

HW:  1.  The majority of students did not complete Monday's homework.  Those students are to complete it, as well as today's homework.  Today's homework follows:

   2.  Lit. WORKBOOK - page 58
2.  Read AR books
*****ALL students were given a copy of the grade they will receive on their report card for the first nine weeks.  Each assignment was listed along with the grade received.  I dropped the most damaging grade.

Wed., Oct. 7:
HW:  1.  Smart Starts due Friday
     2.  journals due Friday
     3.  Lit. book:

a.  read page 211 "Grammar Link --- Keeping the Tense consitent"
b.  Define the 10 words in "Vocabulary - How to Own a Word"  (you do not have to complete the activity, just define the words).

Thursday, Oct. 8:
HW:  1. Smart Start quiz (Sept. 14 throught Oct. 9)
     2.  journal- (Sept. 14 - Oct. 9) entries (20 total must be a half a page per entry

Friday, Oct. 9:
HW:  MAGNET ONLY:  write a first draft for the writing contest --- go to the AMA or MCSD sites for guidelines, rubric, APA samp (this is the same information you had in your folders when you were brainstorming in groups earlier this week) --DUE MONDAY

5th period only:  define the words given to you in class today (only one group was given these words; the three other groups had another assignment).

Monday, Oct. 12:
HW:  1. Read AR -- going to library Tuesday

Tuesday, Oct. 13:
HW:  1. read AR books
     2.  magnet:  revise essay
     3.  report cards went home today

Wed., Oct. 14:
HW:  1. Read AR books
     2.  magnet:  complete the final copy of the writing contest paper (follow guidelines and rubric)
     3.  traditional:  finish vocabulary and be prepared to use the words in the correct context

***Kudos to all of the students that made Principal's List and Honor Roll!!! I've never seen so much amazing effort!  Keep it up for the rest of the year!!!

Thursday, Oct. 15:

     2.  be prepared to work in groups Friday (use today's prewriting activity)

Friday, Oct. 16:

     2.  Magnet:  great job on "Computing the Future" writing contest entries
     3.  Fantastic effort this week on prewriting activity.  I can't wait to get started on the rough draft ---see you Monday!

Monday, Oct. 19:
1.  HW:  1.  Read AR
         2.  5th period and 6th period only:  predate all of your journal pages (start with Oct. 19 and date for a total of 20; remember, you are to write in your journals even if we are not in school)

Tuesday, Oct. 20:
HW:  1. WOD test Wednesday

Wed., Oct. 21:
HW:  1.  complete the story organizing sheet
     2.  write your rough draft (remember to skip lines for revising)

Thur., Oct. 22:
HW:  1.  We revised rough drafts in class today (with the exception of 6th period students that attended the Academic Celbration at 1:00).  Have a friend or family member read it one more time. Proofread.  Be ready to write your final copy in class on Monday.  I saw some great work today!  Enjoy the day off on Friday.

Monday, Oct. 26:

Tuesday, Oct. 27:
HW:  1.  Read Ar - Parents were sent a letter informing them on how they can access the AR information for their child (all students are required to read at least 500,000 words by the end of the nine weeks).  
WOW!  Fabulous job on the final copies!  The stories were descriptive, had unique ideas, and really held the interest of the other students.  We will read the rest of them in class on Wednesday!  

Wed., Oct. 28:
HW:  1. Read AR (students should have brought back the Ren. Home Connect letter I sent home Tuesday)
