The character word for the month of August is "respect." Please spend time with your child discussing what having respect or being respectful means.
Please note: School pictures will be taken Thursday of this week.
Work for the week of August 25 - 29 is as follows:
Monday - We will be going to the Media Center for orientation and book check out. Students will be given their reading ranges based on the results of the STAR Diagnostic Reading Test, so please be sure to ask them about this. Students MUST read 3 A/R books per 9-week period, and these will be recorded as test grades, so students should be reading at home. There is no specific homework this evening other than reading. Tomorrow we will begin prepositions.
Tuesday -
Classwork:
Study of prepositions
Students will define prepositions and be able to recognize prepositional phrases in sentences.
1. Handbook - P. 65, Ex. 11 - Review orally and identify the prepositions and prepositional phrases.
2. Handbook - P. 68, Ex. 12 - Complete 1-10 - Write only the prepositional phrases and circle the prepositions. These will be collected for a grade.
3. To help students understand prepositions as parts of speech give location or placement, we will draw a house. On the house, students will illustrate the following prepositions: on, above, in front of, over, inside, outside, around, near, beside, and within. After illustrating these prepositions on the house, they will then write sentences describing their drawings. In the sentences, prepositions should be underlined.
Homework - Complete the house and sentences for those students who did not complete this in class.
