What is the scientific method (SM)? Why use SM?

Answer questions
Draw conclusions
Six Steps
1.    State the question
2.    Gather information
3.    Form a Hypothesis
4.    Test the hypothesis
5.    Draw conclusions
6.    Report Results
State a Question
•    State a question you will answer with your experiment.
•    Every experiment has a question the experiment is answering.
Gather Information
•    Gather data or information that may help you answer your question.
For m a Hypothesis
•    A hypothesis is an educated guess or prediction.
•    Your hypothesis is your predicted answer to your question.
Test the Hypothesis
•    Your experiment
•    Your experiment will test your hypothesis and prove whether it is correct or incorrect.
Draw Conclusions
•    Look back at your experiment’s results.
•    Determine whether your hypothesis was proven right or wrong.
Report Results
•    Report back in your conclusion whether your hypothesis or prediction was right or wrong.
Remember: If your hypothesis is proven wrong simply state it. It does not mean you have done something wrong. Predictions can be wrong.
