Thank you for returning to this site. This week the students will be finishing up the section on the Civil War. The students have been given a guide to the reading from their textbooks. It is four pages long. The students were to write definitions for vocabulary words, record important people that contributed to this time, and then a list of topics along with questions about that topic in an effort to guide the students to a deeper understanding of the material. I will be collecting this information on Monday. A test will be given on Wednesday to assess the students understanding on this most critical topic.
This week the students will be given a single page handout that is intended to review materials previously taught. I am beginning to get your child prepared to take the CRCT test in social studies. Instead of waiting to the test arrives and then review we will be reviewing one or two topics a week. I am telling the students to keep their work and organize it so they will be able to utilize it again. I will be going over the material a second, third or fourth time with the students before the test arrives.
The work I have described in both previous paragraphs can be and should be deemed homework. Your child should have their noses in the book or talking to friends about this work every day. I want them to use this information and make themselves near experts on the topics I have given them. I need the parents to follow up for me on this. If your child is telling you, “I don’t have any home work” they’re lying. Parents your children should have something to do every night, If not in this class then in the other classes. Your child has much to do. You can always tell them to go read their social studies textbook. Their textbook should be at home, but if they tell you that they have it at school that is not a problem. Here is a website where the textbook is on line. It is www.mystatehistory.com and the password is ga11hist. Be sure to choose the Georgia addition. Students can access the book 24-7. There are also fun games and self quizzes that the students can take to test themselves and see how well they have learned. I encourage all of you to go there and play the games. What a wonderful time the family will have learning together while enjoying this learning experience.
Thank you again for visiting.
