Welcome parents and students to Rothschild Middle School better known as the "Rock".My name is Mr.Cole I will be your son or daughters 6th grade math teacher.I am also the Team leader for Team 6-2,I'm located in room 504 in the 6th grade building. You can contact me through email here at school notes,lcole@mcsdga.net,send a note by student,or last option call front office and leave a message, try and use last method for emergencies.Last week we worked on rules, rituals and routines of the classroom. You should have received an handout explaining classroom expectations, classroom rules, supplies list, how grades are calculated, and how to set up class folders. If you have any questions feel free to ask.Students during class took an CRCT pre-test from the CRCT Coachbook. These tests will be evaulated only to see what the student knew upon entering the door.We also did a getting to know you exercise where each student answered questions on a worksheet about themselves and then presented to the class, students did well on their presentations.Students also had three homework assignments,Homework#1-Worksheet on multiplication and division,Homework#2-Super Kids woksheet 3 digit long division,Homework#3-Mixed worksheet on multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. All these assignments should be turned in at this time 8/18.All assignments must have scratch work numbered and stapled to the back in order to be accepted. Please review multiplication facts with students to make sure they know, especially the 7,8,and 9's.(no fingers,no tick marks). This week we are working on skills that each student will have to know to be successful in 6th grade mathematics. We are working on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers to include two x two, three x three, four x two and two and three digit division. There are three homework assignments due at this time and each assignment must have scratchwork numbered and stapled to the back. Calculators are not allowed until further notice.Homework#4 went out 8/18-Workbook section 3-5 page 19 due tue 8/19/08 Homework#5-Super kids worksheet division by 3 digits, Class assignment#2-group assignment on applications using multiplication, division, subtraction and addition. These are the type of problems students should know how to answer at the end of section using Georgia Performance Standards-Rothschild is going on a school field trip.Mr.Cox has to decide how many buses to order. It has to be exact because the budget is tight, and he has asked you for help.If there are 1,980 students and only 45 students can fit on each bus,how many buses will Mr.Cox need to order?
Most students have their supplies, a math journal(spiral notebook)is needed daily to record warm-ups and notes, please check to see if your child has one and it should be set-up with 3 warm-ups in it.Thanks, we have had a great start, we have a long journey ahead CRCT in April more details later we started working on 8/12/08.

9/4/08
Accelerated Math was introduced to students. This is a program that I use to document student learning of the lessons and standards taught.students work on practices every night as homework. It is a packet with a card that looks like a lotto ticket.I test students in the classroon closed book, notes and monitored. When student passes objective on test it is considered mastered.Teacher goal is for each student to have a minimum of 100 mastered by April 1st 2009.If student has these mastered, student should be successful on CRCT.
