Journalism
FourthNine Weeks
Part of the student's grade is a work ethic grade. The following things are considered: going "beyond the call of duty" to get a story of interest or an interview; meet all deadlines; have regular attendance; on time to class; exemplary behavior in class; good attitude and working well with others; doing quality work; working at all times during class unless told they can do otherwise. You will lose points for the following:
sleeping, talking without permission, disrespectful in tone or in manner, wasting time, not turning in assignment each day. NOTE: Even if you cannot work on your assigned spread or story, you must ask me for another assignment. Sitting idly while others work is not acceptable! If I am absent or do not have the time to give you an additional assignment, here are ones you must do in class until I get a chance to give you another assignment:
Write an editorial relating to anything at KHS.
Write an editorial relating to anything in the world news.
Write your reflections of this year--school or otherwise.
Write a poem or short story, draw a picture, or write a cartoon strip.
Write a book review or a movie review.
Find fillers for the newspaper/yearbook.
Look at the list of facts about the history of KHS and write an article about it.
Look at the list of facts about world events during the 40 years Kendrick has been in existence and write about one of them. Research it first.
Seniors: Write a poem about graduation or write your last will and testament. You can also start collecting last wills and testaments from fellow seniors.
NOTE: I do not want to give a set number of words for you to write on each of these, but you must cover the topic in a complete, concise, and scholarly manner.
If you have doubts about the length, ask me.
If you are tardy to Mr. Farless' classroom (taking more than 5 minutes to get to his room from my room, you will be counted as unexcused tardy on the Class XP.
Meeting your deadlines is a grade to itself. If you do not meet your deadlines, you will have points taken off for each deadline you miss. This includes assignments which must be completed overnight.
NOTE TO STUDENTS WHO DID NOT TAKE JOURNALISM LAST SEMESTER: By choosing to stay in this class, you agreed to follow all the rules and to work hard to catch up with those students who were in Journalism A (the prerequisite to this course (B). If you do not understand how to do something, ask me or another student. We have a March 1st deadline for our yearbook as you know and we do not have time to waste classtime.
